Vitamin D and ME

From a bad memory EBV can switch particular vit D metabolic genes off and on and reactivate retroviruses .

Interesting. I started getting reactivations of viruses in 2001 soon after taking vitamin D regularly. I have stopped taking it on and off for a few weeks over the years and seem to feel 'better', but dismissed the correlation.

Now that summer is here I'll be absorbing natural vitamin D instead of supplements. I wonder if we metabolize sun and supplements differently?

Man dies from too much Vitamin D with highest possible levels in his body as officials issue warning

The conclusion of the inquest was death by misadventure.

Surrey Assistant Coroner Jonathan Stevens has since released an official statement claiming that the supplements Michener was consuming nine months before his death lacked proper guidance.

My vitamin D levels went over the ref range when I started taking 3000iu daily years ago. I take 2500's daily during the fall, winter and spring months but can't get tested anymore. I don't take any during the summer as I'm able to sit out and get sunshine.

In the UK, the NHS Reference Range is:

Less than 25 nmol/L = Severe deficiency, treat with high strength Vitamin D loading dose;
25 - 50 nmol/L = Insufficiency, supplements recommended;
above 50 nmol/L = Adequate but provide lifestyle advice and consider supplements particularly in high risk groups.

No upper range is given on blood test result forms (at least not by the lab at our local hospital).

Note that some countries use "ng/mL" and others use "nmol/L" - so reference ranges will differ. To convert ng/mL to nmol/L multiply by 2.496 (or 2.5).

There is NICE guidance here:

My 25 hydroxy test from 2006 was at 26 from taking 1000iu's daily.

I checked over my results from 2007 from taking 3000iu's vitamin D for 6 months:
Vitamin D (25HYDRO) - 144 (ref 25-200 NMOL/L)
Vitamin D (1-25 DIHY) - 153 (ref 40-150 PMOL/L)

Came with a 'warning'.

These tests were taken after magnesium injections.
