Professor Sir Simon Wessley would like your help...

Possible, but perhaps unwise. Wessely is not an idiot. He must know that this form of survey is both unsound, and open to abuse. He may well be deliberately setting a trap to attract responses from outside his purported target group, so he can say: 'see that nasty disruptive minority of...

    Wessely gets touchy feely

They are best at thinking inside the box, at reproducing known methods and results. But not so much at thinking outside it, which is what is required for original insightful productive research. Doctors, who largely come from the top percent or two of school students, don't generally make good...

Better Science through Better Data 25th October 2017 - Esther Crawley!

I want the likes of Crawley and Wessely, etc, removed from power and held properly accountable as soon as possible, and the history books to accurately record what happened and who was guilty. But nothing more. Once that happens then I have no further interest in wasting a single second of my...

    Wessely gets touchy feely

If that isn't a massive warning sign to the rest of medicine and science, I don't know what is.

    Wessely gets touchy feely

"in the later stages of treatment patients are encouraged to increase their activity (which must ultimately be the aim of any treatment)" Wessely, David, Butler, & Chalder – 1990 For once I, and probably every patient, agree with Wessely, et al: Increase in overall activity capacity must be...

As a psychologist I see the fantasy of neoliberal values having a devastating effect on mental healt

Just to muddy the waters even more, in Australia the Liberal party, one of the two dominant parties here, is our version of the conservatives. Confuses the shit out of Americans. o_O One of the running political jokes here is that the Liberals should be sued for false advertising. :p

Getting Glasses When You Have ME-related Variable Eyesight

I can see how that could be the case for some patients, seeing as that style of lens can even cause those problems for healthy people. My optometrist said they are not for everybody. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to try them.

Articles on Montoya and Mark Davis's Cytokine work

I do love it when the serious pros ride into town, and show the amateurs how it is done.

Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy the Gold Standard for Psychotherapy?

I think he originally thought CFS was just a variant of depression, but conceded later that that it was not. But otherwise, his basic views have not changed one bit, far as I can tell.

Getting Glasses When You Have ME-related Variable Eyesight

Wrong side of the continent. Nice to know, especially seeing as they are my optometrist.

Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy the Gold Standard for Psychotherapy?

I'd be a little careful of citing him. He is a mixed bag.

Getting Glasses When You Have ME-related Variable Eyesight

Dunno. Where do you live? I do wonder about long term effects of varifocals. Only had mine 3 months, so a bit early to tell.

Getting Glasses When You Have ME-related Variable Eyesight

Small world. Same happened to me on my latest visit to the optometrist. Made for an easier consultation.
