Preprint Seven replicated genomic associations of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: a biobank study, 2026, Slaughter, Ponting et al.

Thanks Chris. Appreciate you letting us know a bit about what’s planned. And of course hoping the Biobank comes back online for you soon. Good to know severe subgrouping will be covered. I’m sure there’s a few of us who’d love to help analysis if we could but not sure we have the resources for...

The buspirone challenge test clearly distinguishes ME/CFS patients from healthy controls: why is it not being developed and deployed?

I don’t think there needs to be a clear pattern for it to be relevant. There’s potentially a lot of moving and interacting parts here which would mean some things we see may not be entirely consistent between people or life stages. Like much of ME/CFS! The hormonal changes during pregnancy and...

The buspirone challenge test clearly distinguishes ME/CFS patients from healthy controls: why is it not being developed and deployed?

That’s brilliant news thank you @Jonathan Edwards There seems a lot of possibilities, it would be fantastic if we can get someone interested and able to narrow things down. Looking forward to hearing more when you’re able to share and hope the follow up meetings go well.

PRIME International Symposium, September 28-29 2026

Previous PRIME webinars have been available here some time after the event, I’m assuming/hoping the same for this https://m.youtube.com/@ActionForMEcharity/videos Slightly different question, but I expect the response will be the same...

The buspirone challenge test clearly distinguishes ME/CFS patients from healthy controls: why is it not being developed and deployed?

I’ve also been thinking what, if accurate, the reported blunted prolactin response seen in exercise and induced hypoglycemia can tell us about the pathways involved? And a-MSH, I think I read that it increases lactotroph Ca2+ and therefore responsiveness (changing activation thresholds, so...

The buspirone challenge test clearly distinguishes ME/CFS patients from healthy controls: why is it not being developed and deployed?

I think it could work with an increased number of lactotrophs or greater responsiveness of those lactotrophs for some reason. With largely steady state levels the balance between supressjon from dopamine and everything else would be just fine. It would only be with sharp changes in levels that...

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

That’s it for the big posts. But hopefully a good overview of what these cells are! Those two papers were substantial reviews of many papers themselves so reducing their content wasn’t easy. It was at least useful for me in learning about them so I hope it may be for others. Overall it seems...

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

Some more details, there’s a lot in this review! I may need to come back and split it up a bit (sorry for the wall of text but if I don’t post it I’ll lose the text or my mind) but some highlights Edit: Still a lot of text but hopefully easier now it’s in sections. Structure and extra cellular...

The buspirone challenge test clearly distinguishes ME/CFS patients from healthy controls: why is it not being developed and deployed?

I do like the sound of that. If it was confirmed there’s something going on around lactotrophs maybe we can get endocrinologists interested. And they can look at FS cells :D There may be nothing. But there may be something! FS cells could potentially tie in with changes in numbers of or...

Beyond genes: EpiSwitch® & Orion platform-powered 3D genome architecture biomarkers reveal shared biology across ME/CFS, LC, PTSD, RA&MS, 2026, Hunter

As far as I can tell they’re just picking up the press release from a month ago from the university which @Hutan posted here. Nothing new here, no new information. Since they’re repeating themselves so will I They’ve claimed they have a blood test for me/cfs and now this. We’d all love there...

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

Next paper, the one @V.R.T. mentioned and I’ll start with those bits from the abstract as they’re intriguing, but then dive into the rest of the paper Renewing an old interest: Pituitary folliculostellate cells, 2021, Le Tissier et al Le Tissier, Paul R.; Mollard, Patrice Web | DOI | PMC | PDF...

Andy Devereux-Cooke, fundraiser for Action for M.E.

Difficult to know where to start. But looking at their Research pages may be a good start https://www.actionforme.org.uk/research-campaigns/our-research-work/sequenceme-long-covid/ Or any of their recent webinars on or around DecodeME or PRIME or discussion of them on here, there’s a few threads...

Hypothesis Modulation of autonomic regulatory processes in ME/CFS within psychotherapy, 2026, Hartlieb

The problem is not that patients find psychotherapeutic practices stressful. It’s that they do not work for ME/CFS and are not appropriate for ME/CFS. They have been tried. They have not worked in the way proposed here. This theory and branch of thought is an ex parrot. It is not resting or...

Thanks Chris, I’m sure we’d all help spread the news of that if we can! Are you able to tell us if using the techniques from this paper would enable you to look at subgroups by severity within the DecodeME cohort?

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

My summary would be that the FS cells act as scaffolding and a mesh around the hormone producing cells, they were thought to do nothing more and not easy to study until it was found they express the marker protein S100B. Interestingly this is a glial protein primarily expressed by astrocytes, so...

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

Rather than posting full papers and abstracts I’ll include their details and some selected passages that I find interesting and maybe some of my notes. So a bit curated and interpreted, but hopefully not too far off the mark! The more modern review @V.R.T. linked to is a good place to start...

Hypothesis Modulation of autonomic regulatory processes in ME/CFS within psychotherapy, 2026, Hartlieb

How does modulating the recovery dynamics of biological systems through psychotherapy go for other biological diseases? I wish people would stop with this stuff. It doesn’t help people with ME/CFS and it doesn’t help the reputation of psychotherapy. Rather it harms both.

    Folliculostellate (FS) Cells

That’s a really good question! I’d be interested in hearing what others think. Given discussion in the prolactin thread I wonder if there’s any PET tracers which could be used to measure relevant signalling molecules or just measuring blood levels (they may be masked and not give us cell...
