..investigation of nutritional intake & supplement use in Australians with [ME/CFS] .. implications on health-related QOL, 2021, Weigel et al

You see this in various acquired neurological conditions, such as stroke, in a general response to alcohol. But also specific symptoms such as spoken language in aphasia or movement control in people with hemiplegia are impacted by relatively small amounts of alcohol.

..investigation of nutritional intake & supplement use in Australians with [ME/CFS] .. implications on health-related QOL, 2021, Weigel et al

There does seem to be a large variation between individuals as to what if any food intolerances they have and and also potentially variation with individuals. Also for me the symptoms of food intolerances are dose dependant, unlike the effect of allergies, introducing the idea of thresholds...

..investigation of nutritional intake & supplement use in Australians with [ME/CFS] .. implications on health-related QOL, 2021, Weigel et al

Frustrating that the sample size, potential of selection bias and the use of self reported questionnaires rather than a prospective food diary limit what we can conclude. I was surprised that the ME respondents reported higher than ‘normal’ caffeine consumption, given this is not uncommonly...

Gez Medinger videos: Part 1 Pacing - Ben Marsh, Part 2 GET - Todd Davenport et al.

Why is it with ME and presumably now Long Covid even when people start to get it right they still get it wrong?

Gez Medinger videos: Part 1 Pacing - Ben Marsh, Part 2 GET - Todd Davenport et al.

In theory I ought to be very positive about this video, it is addressing constructively many important issues not least PEM or post exertion symptom exacerbation, and the dangers of GET. Also I feel bad about criticising what is a well communicated position, representing a massive step forward...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

At some point during the consultation, NICE did say that stakeholder comments would be published in full, but comments from others would only be summarised. However I don’t think it was specified when, though with the final draft might make sense.

Sorry yes I had not discovered some new phenomenon, I will correct my post.

Voices of Recovery website (Lightning Process promotion)

Reading what @cassava7 has added to the above post, it seems (perhaps on the basis of insufficient information) that Chatterjee in her work through the Manchester Buddhist Centre was involved with ideas of personal growth and living with the underlying conditions, which is very different to the...

Voices of Recovery website (Lightning Process promotion)

It would be interesting to know if she is still actively involved within the FWBO, and combining that with being a Lightening Process practitioner. It seems to me that the Lightening Process is not not compatible with traditional understandings of mindfulness or right livelihood. It strikes me...

Voices of Recovery website (Lightning Process promotion)

The linked page says “Cities located: Manchester, London, Birmingham”. One reads of yogis mastering bi location, but tri location. (Sorry being flippant)

Voices of Recovery website (Lightning Process promotion)

I am not sure ‘suspicious’ is a fair choice of word, though I do agree that the two events are likely to be linked. If we had felt that the draft was unreasonably supporting GET and that we needed to gather information on the harms of GET we might reasonably start a website and Facebook Group...

Voices of Recovery website (Lightning Process promotion)

My study of logic was a life time ago, but if my memory services me correctly this would be a good example of the fallacy of ‘going from the specific to the general’. - X had ME and tried the Lightening Process - X recovered - there every one with ME will recover if they do the Lightening...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Though I don’t think it is at all likely that the current press of publications since the closing date for comments will make their way into the research analysed, it is theoretically possible that they may colour any reanalysis of the material already included or strengthen the impact of any...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

The recent letter to NICE was linked to above, but I think it would be helpful to copy it below (see https://doctorswith.me/dwme-joins-call-for-nice-to-maintain-scientific-process/?fbclid=IwAR3nzNl_-mAt38rrtzzfp6frNq_Z-gLav9Dxs1cFYfzZH5U9ElSWLdDEwHU ) It may have been confusing because though...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Have I correctly understood what has happened? - Dr Hng with others submitted feedback on the draft during the appropriate consultation period - Drs with ME have established some form of connection with the Dr Hng group - collectively they now have written to NICE requesting that any...

Bridget Mildon - patient advocate for Functional Neurological Disorders

Is a big problem with FND that currently it is inadequately defined, so it is possible for people to pick their own meaning and for individuals with totally incompatible understandings of the term to simultaneously support it? Bizarrely the author does not, in the above extracts at least...

[Blog] Beyond the NICE guideline: MEComms© and the case for a public inquiry

I wonder if it is worth asking whether we might be more successful fighting for the narrative internationally or on British stage. Undoubtedly the BPS cult has its heart in the UK academic/medical establishment and a positive outcome in a UK public enquiry as a head on confrontation might have...

Self-help interventions for young people with persistent physical symptoms: A systematic review, 2021, Holsting et al

Couidn’t this conversely have a ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ effect, drawing people in to do yet more of the same?

Moderate, Intermittent Voluntary Exercise in a Model of Gulf War Illness Improves Cognitive and Mood Function..., 2021, Kodali et al

I initially thought, this is interesting. We don’t know if we can repeatedly be active up to our PEM threshold or if a cumulation of sub threshold activity itself will also trigger PEM, is the trigger a particular intensity of exertion or a cumulative total of exertion, or if there is...

Common and discrete mechanisms underlying chronic pain and itch: peripheral and central sensitization, 2021, Li et al

This is probably irrelevant, but … … … I can appreciate that a chronic itch can become profoundly distressing, even overwhelming. However, it is very different to even pain with no identifiable/identified external cause, such as trauma or infection. The later can become so severe as to trigger...
