I was thinking that on another thread. I wonder is the Nudge Unit subject to FOI?
It might be interesting to find how they are attempting to influence public perception on ME and also on Long Covid.
That would make sense @Peter Trewhitt .
And if CBT really does alter folks beliefs about themselves and their situations etc then surely it is just as possible that some one could have intraogenic Munchausens!
Surely therapists who deliver CBT should have considered (as part of the ethics of...
This sounds better - so “not mandatory” but “expected” to be taken “fully into account in designing services”
I’m thinking the first bit is to allow clinical judgement in individual cases, and the second is the expectation that services should be set up to deliver the recommendations. This is...
This is the nub of it!
How could anyone demonstrate Cochrane reviews as being fit for purpose?
The fact that Cochrane reviews cannot be withdrawn even when demonstrated to be out of date and/or erroneous, and also the major detail they are exempt fromFOI because they have charity status...
Ah okay, I overlooked the part that their time may be paid for by their daytime employer. So that raises another question.
If NICE are paying Cochrane for work done by reviewers on a third party’s payroll, does that not create another problem? As a teacher I was always told that as a college...
So hold on a mo. If reviewers genuinely get nothing out of doing Cochrane reviews then that is exploitation plain and simple. There must be a benefit of some kind, for these reviewers to put in the huge hours that a thorough review would entail.
So if unpaid reviewers have another ulterior...
Thank you @Trish you have the heart of a lion. That is a very detailed and considered email. Thank you. (Not sure why, but I couldn’t even face opening the questionnaire - thank you for being braver than me. Xx)
A sponsored link to this came came up on my Facebook newsfeed.
“You are being invited to take part in research on how emotions and relationships impact symptom severity in people aged 45 or older who suffer from IBS, CFS or fibromyalgia. Stuart Airey at the University of Edinburgh is leading...
10 years
1st year declined from mild/moderate to mod/severe
3 years severe with further creeping decline
1 year improving (I took an anti-retroviral drug)
6 years mostly at mild/moderate again but with some random better/worse weeks/months.
PS Never been consistently well enough to work, but...
Interesting. Here they are used widely and given out freely. Folk often use them before going out, and a PCR is only offered if you have symptoms.
Perhaps for Delta (and earlier variants) it was mostly useful, but as I understand things Omicron replicates much much faster, so maybe an LFT...
I saw a comment on Twitter (sorry lost it now) that Omicron spread widely at a party where all had done LFTs just before attending. So it seems it might be infectious before being detectable. :(
Worse, for some BPS HCPs regard reports of harms as further evidence of the patients’ mistaken beliefs!!
Edit to add - I have never heard this argument first hand, but it is out there as a reason not to take ME patients seriously!
Following on to above, how is being in work defined?
I “had a job” for a full year after being unable to “work”.
So at what point does taking sick-leave become stopping work? Presumably there is a lag-time before an individual is counted as not working?
In the other direction, starting work...
Would be interesting to have details of the hours worked by the different groups.
Were those taking up work perhaps only picking up very part-time jobs?
Also we have no detail about whether those in work and staying in work, actually reduced their hours in order to stay employed.
So the “not...
Back of the envelope calculations:
Am I right in estimating
10% of the working group had to stop work and
21% of those not working were able to start work?
Are these not figures that would look better from her pov?
What have I missed?
