Daily Mail article: One in 10 NHS trusts have a 'male menopause' policy

The woke protocols o_O I guess at least he makes it clear where he is coming from, what is prejudices are. I find the use of 'woke' in a critique a pretty reliable flag that the critique is drivel and political from the ground up.

Review Confirmed: The Conclusion by NICE that CBT is not an Effective Treatment for ME/CFS; Re-Analysis of a Systematic Review, 2024, Vink & Vink-Niese

I am in this camp. Among other reasons I don't believe the profession has the technical and personal understanding or capacity to deal with the extreme levels of secondary trauma inflicted upon us by the profession itself. With the usual honourable individual exceptions.

Incompetence and “Useless” Research into ME and Long COVID

Some – and more than a handful – of the abstracts even contradict themselves. Typically something like 'we did not find a significant result, but will recommend psycho-behavioural interventions anyway'. Nope. Right on the money. The BPS gang had a huge propaganda win when they got the name...

Poll: To what extent are you (PwME) still shielding from Covid?

I have two different masks. One I use for short term use (<hour or so, e.g. shopping), the other for longer term (more comfortable). Both are P2/N95 standard.

Identification of soluble biomarkers that associate with distinct manifestations of long COVID, 2025, Gao, Buggert, Peluso et al

Heterogeneity is going to remain a significant confounder until we get some good biomarkers to help reveal any sub-groups and generally clarify diagnostic criteria.

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Dear NIH, et al, staff, Protect the records and data. That will be the key to rebuilding the institutions after the disaster.

UK:The Guardian:Unemployed could be given weight-loss jabs to get back to work, says Wes Streeting

Leaving aside the aesthetics of it, as I understand it the research shows that carrying a bit of extra weight is not a significant health risk if your diet is good, you are not a smoker, drink low or no amount of alcohol, have no major genetic risks, and get some regular exercise. Not talking...

Poll: To what extent are you (PwME) still shielding from Covid?

I have managed to avoid Covid so far, assuming I have not had an asymptomatic case. And I plan to go right on not having it. Including masking up whenever mixing with the public, to the extent I can. Difficult when in the dentist's chair, for example.

Patient and Public Involvement opportunities in ME/CFS and other research

With the caveats in my previous comment in mind: I do agree that PPI is something we have to engage with as robustly as possible. In principle it is worth a serious go. Done right it can deliver real benefits. At the very least it needs to give us a much better pathway for raising concerns...

Preprint Relationship between plasma cortisol concentration and Long COVID symptoms in the post-acute phase of COVID-19 ..., 2024, Dalhuisen/Peluso/etc

Same kind of problem as calling neurochemical modifiers 'anti-depressants'. They typically have much broader effects than that, e.g. Amitriptyline for reducing pain and stabilising sleep.

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

I am all for reform of the NIH, et al, and their equivalents in every country. They have not served us well, to put it politely. But it does not follow that this guy is the right person for the job. Nor even that anybody the incoming administration will choose is going to be. Be careful we...

Patient and Public Involvement opportunities in ME/CFS and other research

I also have mixed feelings about PPI. It is potentially a good thing, and has proved to be in some cases. But the required level of knowledge and understanding of broader science, and trial methodology in particular, plus understanding how the politics of it all works, is high. If the trained...

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

At a time in human history where infectious diseases have their greatest opportunity ever to emerge and spread globally. He helped convince Samoans and Tongans not to vaccinate against measles. Result: 83 people dead in Samoa, and more than 70 in Tonga, in less than a year, from one of the most...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

If this claim is true, then surely the best way to deal with FND, etc, is for everybody, including the 'experts', to never talk about it, and deny it even exists. Or at the very least to downplay it as much as possible. You certainly don't want to be writing books about it and going on...

Alcohol Intolerance poll. Please do the poll even if your answer is no.

Important variable. Sometimes a drink or two can be fine, at least at the time of drinking. It has the normal expected pleasant effects. At other times it feels unpleasant pretty quickly, within maybe 10 min. The 'poisoned' sensation, as it were.
