United Kingdom: Action for ME (AfME) news

Yes I’m glad there have been good “food for thought” points to make people think twice. He is, of course, most remembered for cutting Dr’s pay and unprecedented strikes as a result of his policy. On the face of it he would seem like the enemy of healthcare. As I say, I believe he will be a good...

United Kingdom: Action for ME (AfME) news

I wonder whether there’s a Sajid Javid link? Whilst the Conservatives are not thought of as being our natural champions, Jeremy Hunt does not just take on extra responsibility without good reason.

United Kingdom: Action for ME (AfME) news

At the risk of being political, whilst he was problematic as Health Secretary as a politician he is very solid, and I actually think this is both interesting and quite good. I’m not really in a position to explain why, so let’s see what happens.

UK:ME Association funds research for a new clinical assessment toolkit in NHS ME/CFS specialist services, 2023

Sadly I think they know all of this and are ok with it. Also if you say this kind of thing you’ll be accused of hysteria

How would an Average pwME/carer (no biology knowledge or access to S4ME) be able to tell when a mechanism has been discovered vs bio “memes” and hype?

I found here after becoming fed up with the MEA on socials announcing a new study which shows that something something definitely breakthrough etc. never to be hear of again. I would be no use in a cult or MLM, if you keep telling me the Wow Best Ever thing is happening and it keeps “not...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I’m not going to write what I think as I will just make work for the mods. Suffice to say, he is a sea lion. I’m glad Sarah has called out the grief hijacking and clout chasing. No need to use my feed for self-promotion Paul Garner. I am very well aware of your position and we all know how...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

It reminds me of when some Britain First/BNP far right party erected a sign in memorial to a girl who was run over and killed by a guy who wasn’t British. They did it for clout/attention and the girl’s family were disgusted her name and memory was being used to promote something she and they...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Posted to Sarah Boothby’s LinkedIn post regarding the #JusticeforME project she is involved in. Paul just stopping by to let us know he has empathy, NICE [206] is rubbish and a link to Oslo Consortium I have the biggest shudders. My Ick has overflown.

What is he doing posting on her Linkedin! He is something else, using #JusticeforME to promote Oslo Consortium. I will post further on his thread.

UK: #JusticeforME fundraising for legal case for UK Government to provide specialist ME/CFS medical care

I think that what’s going on legally means that language will be very moderate. This isn’t being written as a call to activism, it’s a legal challenge. They clearly want the DHSC to acquiesce rather than go through a judicial review. I can understand their approach. Personally I’m very tempted...

UK: #JusticeforME fundraising for legal case for UK Government to provide specialist ME/CFS medical care

They are mounting legal challenges on areas of the ME Delivery Plan where such challenge is possible, I thought?

What empirical evidence is there that heart-rate monitoring helps avoid PEM?

I think a meta-analysis of all heart rate studies to see whether Workwell make well-founded claims would be good I think a meta-analysis of “PEM prevention/mgmt studies” would also be useful. The question relating to both, thanks to @Sasha for raising it, is there science behind the assertions...

What empirical evidence is there that heart-rate monitoring helps avoid PEM?

I can only speak to myself but my heart rate jumps up when I go upright, and stays up until I rest. To get it to do that when lying down I would need to be told something devastating and extremely upsetting. The more I do, the easier it is for my heart rate to go too fast. So if I went out...

I found this am sure we had a thread on it https://www.robots.ox.ac.uk/~mosb/public/pdf/3535/Aitken%20et%20al.%20-%202024%20-%20Smartphone-based%20monitoring%20of%20heart%20rate%20variability%20and%20resting%20heart%20rate%20predicts%20variability%20in.pdf

What empirical evidence is there that heart-rate monitoring helps avoid PEM?

I think that if you look at the workwell foundation info, they are claiming that keeping heart rate low leads to less PEM. The document is here and there are only two studies cited. They refer to the 2 day CPET test. https://workwellfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/HRM-Factsheet.pdf I...
