United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

Good riddance. :grumpy: I hope the AfME are suitably ashamed of themselves for their role in enabling Crawley's assault on patients, especially children. Though I doubt it. And excuse me if I remain skeptical about these changes until proven. Anybody who thinks the BPS cult will quietly go...

Association of chronic fatigue syndrome with premature telomere attrition (2018) Unger et al

If I shave (rare event these days) it easily takes ten years off. Mostly because my beard is about 80% white these days. Also, like Sasha, I have basically stayed indoors or under shade all my adult life.

Australia: results from disability pension reviews, & admission of RobotDebt failure

So our rabidly anti-welfare government managed a net reduction of just 0.22% (66/30056). No doubt the lesson they will choose to take from this result is to make disability tests tougher for the next round welfare bashing. ----------------------------------------------

Norway and prof. Gundersen: PACE-debate in newspaper Morgenbladet

I am very wary of allowing the likes of Dr Gundersen to engage freely and directly here as regular member. It is easy for experienced debaters, especially ones in a position of authority (no matter how unjustified), to distort and derail a debate if they so wish, and he has form on that. What I...

The drugs do work: antidepressants are effective, study shows

A dissenting view: https://joannamoncrieff.com/2018/02/24/challenging-the-new-hype-about-antidepressants/amp/ Breggin is a little too anti-drugs and pro-psychotherapy for my taste. Both have their place, if used appropriately.

Tues 20 Feb | UK parliamentary debate: PACE trial and its effect on people with ME - Carol Monaghan, MP

Eating a second shit sandwich doesn't make the first one taste any better. From a Tory. It's going bipartisan.

A general thread on the PACE trial!

The appallingly cruel double-bind (Catch-22) nature of this situation needs to be pointed out very clearly to parliament. It is impossible for patients to win. If they try to please the 'therapists' they end up sicker and having to lie to avoid displeasing those in authority. But if they refuse...

The HOME study - Michael Sharpe s CBT for the elderly

Why do we still have to put up with uncontrolled studies? WTF is wrong with medical science in the UK? This is methodology 101.:mad::mad:

Call to Action: Westminster Hall (UK) (parliamentary) debate: PACE trial and its effect on people with ME - Carol Monaghan February 20

Or worse. e.g Being terrorised (and that is the right word) with implicit or explicit threats of removal of welfare support, and/or sectioning. So much brutal truth in such a short statement.
