Maeve Boothby O'Neill - articles about her life, death and inquest

Thank you @dave30th for your article. I hope more will learn from this tragedy.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: an overview of current evidence 2023 Ludwig et al

Ignored Ramsay's and Acheson's findings. The authors advise the psychological perspective of ME has almost disappeared. Wow, that's been the majority view with research money thrown at it for decades.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: an overview of current evidence 2023 Ludwig et al

Thanks very much, @Suffolkres. But, wow, this NHS article should be corrected, or scrapped now! How out of date info does linger! This also seems to demonstrate the silo syndrome. Right hand not knowing what left hand is doing etc.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: an overview of current evidence 2023 Ludwig et al

OK, I have to say this before reading further in this article. The authors talk about "evident psychiatric comorbidity rates". So, what do the BPS'ers include as psychiatric comorbidtites? Well, we know about ME, and IBS. Looking up other"psychosomatic symptoms", respiratory problems, pelvic...

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: an overview of current evidence 2023 Ludwig et al

One, count 'em, just one of my unfortunate encounters regarding medical ignorance and abuse, was during a consult with a neurologist, who clearly knew absolutely nothing about ME.

Digestion issue causing overexertion and severe weight loss

Hello @cassava7. I am so sorry you are doing so poorly. What a lot to deal with! I too wonder if you've had testing for gallstones. As well as liver function. I could say to myself, surely these have been tested for, and not mention them, but then stranger things have happened in medicine, as...

COVID-19 infection does not seem to affect cognition in college students 2023 Francis and Thunell

I can't read through all the article right now. It is unclear to me whether the college students infected with COVID were recovered by the time of testing. I didn't note that the COVID group had long COVID. A short-term infection with COVID might show different cognition test results than for...

    Cancer Fatigue Scale

Agreed. Heavily weighted towards sussing out depression. ETA: because medicine can't figure out, or fix the fatigue in cancer, it must be caused by a psychological failing. Good grief. With this kind of thinking, there is really no way anyone should be incapacitated by any disease, or other...

Aversion to activity - distinct from fatigue or not?

@Trish, you have described what goes on for me. I repeat many activities that I must do, or that I enjoy doing despite previous pain and increasing feelings of being unwell while doing the activity. Pacing of course helps when the muscle pain, lightheadedness, weakness etc.,start to increase...

    Cancer Fatigue Scale

Thank you for the laugh! :) How terrible to have a very serious, still often fatal disease, and to be psychogically poked and prodded. For the good of what?

    Cancer Fatigue Scale

Absolutely! Fed-up with these leading questionnaires.

The persistent viral infections in the development and severity of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome 2023 Rasa-Dzelzkaleja et al

I just read the abstract. Often that's too much to read re cognitive fatigue. The case definition wasn't in the abstract. Now that I know Fukuda criteria was used, this study is way less exciting.

The persistent viral infections in the development and severity of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome 2023 Rasa-Dzelzkaleja et al

This looks important, but I don't know how important, or not. I know HHV-6 and 7 have been looked at before. As well as cytokines. How significant is this research? And agreed, @boolybooly, how come Latvian researchers have done this when we're still in a muddle. Granted, there is lots of...

Ouch! I remember that. It was definitely painful.

(CDC) Diagnosis and Treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), 2023

No clinical guideline invites and seems to condone dismissal, and neglect. Which is what we've experienced for decades.

What do people think of SF-36?

I think your idea that PEM is ME is interesting. I can't recall for sure, but I think some pwME feel not bad until they plunge into PEM. On the other hand, I feel dreadful all the time, always have with ME, and then gradually slide into PEM which pretty much immobilizes me on the couch for a...

What do people think of SF-36?

As @strategist has said pwME may not have a realistic picture of their disability. What I've seen in others, and myself is that we often overestimate how we're doing. I think comparing to others in the same age bracket could give an idea of function. As well, comparing one's pre ME...

    Spoon theory

I liked the linked article. Thank you. I particularly liked the bit about looking and acting OK, but just one more task causes a collapse. One of my problems with activity is just that, the one more thing to do, and then woops, there's one more thing to do, and one more to do etc. I still...
