Preprint Initial findings from the DecodeME genome-wide association study of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2025, DecodeMe Collaboration

Exactly! I get really frustrated when people talk about this like it's a binary thing.

Criticisms of DecodeME in the media - and responses to the criticisms

What an absolutely empty headed statement. Time for me to hit ignore thread before steam starts coming out of my ears! I wish he had the courage to say this to to the media when asked for comment instead of the usual weasel worded bollocks. But then they might be openly challenged on their...

BioVie Awarded up to $13.1 Million in Funding from U.S. Department of Defense to Evaluate Bezisterim (NE3107) for the Treatment of Long COVID

That is worrying to me as a lot of people recover naturally in the first two years.

BioVie Awarded up to $13.1 Million in Funding from U.S. Department of Defense to Evaluate Bezisterim (NE3107) for the Treatment of Long COVID

This is concerning. Does anyone know if they are tracking PEM as a secondary outcome like the Ely Baricitinib trial is?

That's an interesting thought. Conversely, there seems to be a lot of overlap between ME and Fibro. Maybe the people who have this chronic pain gene /have large amounts of pain with their ME symptoms - have fibro+ME.

After DecodeME - next steps for the ME/CFS community?

A question - what experiments do these data and the Zhang study, Fluge and Mella's recent paper etc suggest might be worthwhile that could run in parallel with SequenceME? Be it lab work or theraputic experiments or biopsies or autopsy studies. Anything that would be worthwhile that doesn't need...

    Genetics: OLFM4

Could this be a possible explanation for or clue as to the horrendous gut issues in more severe ME/CFS

    Genetics: OLFM4

In the interview with David Tuller that came out today, Chris Ponting says this gene is involved in suppressing the immune system, and therefore if it went wrong it could cause many things to go wrong. I'm sure this is a (justified) oversimplification, so what is the more complex story?

What would successful brainstorming about ME/CFS genes look like?

Oh this is interesting. So you think the DecodeME results might have put paid to your hypothesis? Would we have definitely seen genes related to IFNG if it was involved, for example? Are T cells 'safe' from this thought exercise or would they have been likely to have had genetic 'hits' as well...

News from the USA, United States of America

Interesting and perhaps frustrating that he is still hot on antiviral therapies. I'd love to be proved wrong but I just think if that was the answer we would probably know by now.

    DecodeME in the media

Do we know if you can text in to LBC ahead of time? I have written a message because I wont be able to phone in. Otherwise I'll send it at 7pm sharp.

    DecodeME in the media

In a sane world it would be the other way around. You would rule out ME/CFS if you suspected depression.

    DecodeME in the media

Sums up the hypocrisy of the psychobehaviouralists pretty succinctly imo

DecodeME blog: X marks the spot where ME/CFS biology can be discovered

I think if anyone's up to the task of recruiting that cohort it's the Edinburgh team.

DecodeME blog: X marks the spot where ME/CFS biology can be discovered

Yes! Interested to know what the rationale was but I think side by side comparison of ME and LC like this could be very valuble.

DecodeME blog: X marks the spot where ME/CFS biology can be discovered

The long covid aspect of SequenceME seems to be new since the announcement if I'm not mistaken?

Does this have similar methodological issues to the other recent Moreau paper?
