I'm skeptical about the tryptophan trap idea, but I do have TT on rs10109853 - one of the mutations that Phair believes is a problem.
I've added a poll, just for that one snp.
What an inept muddle this evidence review is.
When I looked at the global situation, I thought we were seeing BPS proponents somewhat ceding ME/CFS, and concentrating on the rich pickings of other MUS and Long Covid. I thought recent gains in the UK would hold. I certainly did not expect...
Thanks @J.G. Can you please explain which is the damaging allele in the notation X>Y? e.g. for rs10109853, where it says C>T, is TT bad?
If it works that way, I am homogeneous for that bad allele (TT), i.e. on one of the three SNPs for which there is information on 23andMe. But the other two...
There are some great comments beneath David's latest piece. Here's one by Alida Miller:
And jimells says something I think many of us would agree with:
Yeah, I'm just not buying that as a reasonable excuse if the aim is to move this tryptophan hypothesis forward as quickly as possible. They could have commissioned the UK ME/CFS biobank to do a study on the IDO2 mutations for the samples already to hand. They could have worked with an...
The Washington Post article gives a link to a New Brunswick public health report:

It sounds awful.
I can see what you are saying, I agree with it even. But what we are seeing from OMF, and also from the Stanford clinical team that has been promoting Abilify, is research that isn't robust enough to tell people outside of the Stanford bubble if there is really something worth pursuing. We...
18.40 Ron Davis and Janet Dafoe
20.10 Abilify - Ron is convinced that Abilify helps Whitney. OMF is putting a lot of effort into investigating Abilify and dopamine pathways. They are working with scientists and a person who set up a company.
(It wasn't clear to me if the company is Labcorp...
There's a new thread for the video here (created by @Jaybee00):
MEAction 2021 MECFS researchers video with R Davis,Prusty
So discussion of the video not related to Abilify can be posted on that other thread.
I agree. I was not too sure what the latest version of Complex Chronic Illness Support was like, with the new people involved, but I've just had a quick look at their website.
They are still offering the 'Towards Wellness Course" that was endorsed by Dr Vallings and it still looks as though...
And, as far as we know, it's not just viral infections e.g. ME/CFS seems to occur after the bacterial infection of Q fever. It might even occur after exposure to toxins or other things (E.g. Gulf War Illness).
(sorry, I've edited this a bit since posting)
I think this is problematic, coming as it does from people who are widely seen as experts on ME/CFS. We don't know that cytokines are impacting on mitochondria or muscles or the brain to cause ME/CFS.
We don't know that the brain is causing the...
I'm sorry I seem to be relentlessly picky about this CPD module - but what's with the image of the woman with the red spots and no nose or mouth? How is that accurately conveying something about ME/CFS?
That's all interesting and there's exciting stuff happening. I wonder what 'brain inflammation' actually means in the Covid brain autopsies.
But there was funding for the ME/CFS study, and my impression is that the NIH didn't come anywhere near processing the number of participants that were...
Seriously though, it is a shame the study couldn't be completed properly. I feel fairly sure that problems with blood circulation are part of the ME/CFS pathology.
If the treatment can't be blinded, perhaps there could be some objective outcomes. Activity level might be one, although that...
Same. But, @Barry, you've made me do it. :) It actually was even better than that, Professor Friedman is an 'Endowed Professor'.
Maybe the puerile jokes related to being a well-endowed professor studying viagra were part of why the study was more trouble than it was worth.
