It’s an interesting thought, I’ve always thought adjuvants were pretty benign. As mentioned before I had terrible reactions to both AZ and Pfizr covid vaccines. I’d presumed something interesting about the spike proteins and my body, but maybe there’s some weird immune overreaction to adjuvants...
Glutamate receptors came up in some analysis of the Zhang paper and also seem prominent in my clustering analysis of PrecisionLife’s candidate genes from DecodeME data. I guess we’re looking at the same genes and gene set databases but still, may be interesting.
Great to see you find a way to get back to this @forestglip and thank you for all the thought and work you’ve put in. And for sharing your thinking.
It’s always such a difficult balance to reach isn’t it? I was thinking similarly on my recent projects and used to see the same dilemma often with...
A pretty good way of getting replacement pads for headphones, if you’re okay with it and know exactly what you want, is aliexpress. I was replacing some cushions in an old pair of AKG headphones and originally found some in the UK, but then found and bought basically the same for a fraction of...
Apologies for the long posts but it seemed important to outline the process and I’ve been hesitant to share any biological data until the context had been explained in case it was all rubbish!
Some configuration details and then the results:
The source data from GTEx (I use v10 for this...
A continuation on my above posts. I’ll try to explain a bit of the process I went through and the theory then how I decided to look at the number clusters that I did.
In clustering theory, there's both the silhouette (a measure of cohesion, or how similar a data point is to other data points in...
Yeah. It’s one of the things that is an option in my scripts. There are quite a few options for exploring the data in different ways (mean or median, log transformation or not, z-score or not). This wasn’t clever design. It was the result of an iterative process of failures, of exploration and...
Some charts of clustering as a precursor to some more explanation. These show the relationship between the number of clusters (k) and two statistical measures: the Sum of Squared Errors (SSE) and the Silhouette Coefficient. Both are for the same underlying data, one without z-score normalisation...
Facial expression, not like those disorders, but obviously those who know me can tell how I am. But that’s very different.
Voice there is a more clear impact on, difficult to describe but it sort of ‘goes’ or becomes a bit off (or weak as @StellariaGraminea says) so I think something muscular...
Thanks Simon! In all honesty I don’t know. I’m hoping people with a background and better understanding in all this can tell me.
My scripts do allow analysis of mean or median tpm values and with or without z-score normalisation, so people could try different approaches if more appropriate.
A longer but hopefully readable explanation…
An approach that I have seen used is looking at expression of genes in tissues, finding genes which are more expressed together in particular tissues. This seems to often be linked in terms of mechanisms, or so I’ve read. So I took the gene list and...
I was interested in understanding what the Precision Life data was telling us. Not in validating the data or their methods, but working on the assumption that it is valid and then just understanding what was in it, what the story behind it was. In write-ups and presentations we hear about the...
Details on the paper behind this:
Subsecond dopamine fluctuations do not specify the vigor of ongoing actions
Abstract
Abstract Dopamine (DA) is essential for the production of vigorous actions, but how DA modifies the gain of motor commands remains unclear. Here we show that subsecond DA...
MAMS were also discussed on this podcast if anyone wants to learn more

No advice on chairs as I rarely use them these days. But we used to have the posh ones at work. And I helped my mum get one cheap when another company closed. This happens quite a lot, especially in some cities with more startup and tech or finance sectors. So my advice would be to keep an eye...
Yeah, AFAIK you need to be an accredited/registered researcher https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/use-our-data/apply-for-access/
That’s why the FUMA team can’t share ot like the other datasets https://fuma.ctglab.nl/downloadPage
Agree. It’s disappointing to see and I fear that aspect is likely down to the two charities involved (edit, the 25% ME Group use the term PENE and their materials are cited) . Language more in keeping with DecodeME would be better. Hopefully they can be persuaded on changing this.
Looks like...
Movers and Shakers is a podcast about Parkinson’s, this episode is about EJS ACT-PD which is a multi-arm, multi-stage (MAMS) trial platform aimed ay accelerating drug trials for Parkinson’s

I have mixed feelings about studies doing this.
On the one hand it’s the sort of information I would of course love to have and am very interested in.
On the other, it’s as yet unknown if this information is accurate let alone useful, these studies are part of a process to determine this...
