Action for ME has joined S4ME

Really all the members only sections do is prevent search engines from indexing it. We don't vet new members and many are quite anonymous (we just check against spammer blacklists and possibly VPN usage). I think that is right in terms of ensuring patients can access the forum easily. But that...

Action for ME has joined S4ME

We have no particular rules as to who can become a member we only bad obvious spammers who are flagged as such on blacklisting sites on initial entry. We do have rules that members must abide by. I think we would be concerned if people were misusing a name (e.g. if someone else registered an...

Five patients made 8,303 emergency calls in a year - BBC News Website

Some times it takes someone to properly think through a problem to get a good solution rather than the knee jerk reactions that we get from doctors in the UK. I remember then the fire service were trying to reduce calls the started removing all the abandoned cars because many of the calls they...

    MUS on BBC Devon

I think that is the real issue - the theories don't follow any reasonable logic. I've always liked the idea that a doctor could classify something under a "I haven't a clue" label - it would at least be honest. But MUS they are claiming understanding of something that is 'unexplained' simply...

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

I wonder how many of the practitioners actually look beyond their very limited training. I suspect they need to be told in strong terms that the science is moving on. But I agree an alliance with BACME is bad especially if people in BACME have any influence. I think it shows just how important...

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

It surprise me that anyone would think of combining the conferences. The CMRC is intended to be researchers where as BACME is for practitioners so the subjects would be very different. However, I would consider it a positive thing if for example people who go the the BACME conference heard a...

PACE trial TSC and TMG minutes ordered released

From the quotes in @Esther12 message I'm assuming with PACE they replaced the protocol with the statistical analysis plan. I think they failed to document the protocol changes in the SAP. I think a blind review of data could suggests different stats techniques should apply for example, due...

PACE trial TSC and TMG minutes ordered released

It was the data monitoring committee (not sure what that is!) Also in the stats plan

PACE trial TSC and TMG minutes ordered released

I believe there was something about masked data being made available to the TSC (or a different committee) that was mentioned in the stats analysis plan and hence prior to approval.

David Tuller - Trial By Error: Yesterday's News from the CFS/ME Research Collaborative

I assumed her 'new role' was simply becoming a professor either got the promotion doesn't need to serve on committees or a slightly different was of saying 'wants to spend more time with her family'

Royds Withy King - The PACE trial – “one of the biggest medical scandals of the 21st century”

That looks interesting in that it's in an unusual place the website appears to be a legal one. In the "who are we" section they say:

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

I would see it as a step in the right direction. Good news is if Chris Ponting gets a decent amount of funding for a well constructed research project. From what I've heard he is good so I have faith that he can construct the project but as always funding may be the issue.

UK CMRC 2018 Conference held September 19 & 20 at Bristol

So IiME have a closed session before the main conference for researchers to exchange early results. Also I think it would be good to have smaller sessions between researchers from different fields to try to build research proposals across the fields. But yes it would be good to be open for the...

UK CMRC 2018 Conference held September 19 & 20 at Bristol

I think with the latest changes it may be interesting to attend although in the past non-researcher sessions were limited. But even if they have a shorter session that may prove interesting now they are having more patient involvement on the board. There may be important lessons from PACE (in...

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

I think more importantly I think Chris Ponting looks like a good researcher and one who has been supportive of people with ME. I take this as a very positive signal.
