Well-known, famous people with ME/CFS (public thread)

Rolling Stone headline refers to "Tiring illness" re: Marina :( :(

Exactly. To be honest this is the sort of reason I unfollowed her socials. I think she studied this stuff either beforehand or as a response to what has happened to her (depending on the timeline of when she has been ill). It would actually make a lot of sense if she is trying to make sense of...

Genome-wide Association Study of Long COVID, 2023, Lammi et al.

Are there any similar studies happening so that this result could be replicated; does anyone know? I was really disappointed that the Ponting-led GWAS study was not funded. I know they were hoping someone else would do the study? Is anything else happening?

Wow. I really used to like her music at one point and a couple of her albums in particular; I saw her perform when I was feeling better in the past. I hope she is okay. I kind of got put off when she started taking about a lot of psychology stuff that I think she had potentially started studying...

How Might Benzodiapines (Ativan, Clonazapem) help with ME/CFS?

I take benzodiazepines and they have been some of the most helpful medications for me, much more so than many other things I have tried. I have taken them for over a decade and do not have a dependence issue. As I got better in the past i could also lower my dose correspondingly - I didn't have...

Can this be waived, or? I am interested in what you have to say.

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

To be fair maybe Bard would be best placed to deal with the situation. I often think we might be disadvantaged by our relative transparency and honesty.

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Wow. The forum account is blocked? That is unbelievably bad. I wish more people knew about this block that has been put on - I think it says a lot. ETA: What terms etc do you have to block to block Science for ME? It shows there is no reasonable terms you can block and you are just blocking...

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

I was asking Bard (the Google chatbot) about this review. It claimed somewhat oddly that it contacted them after I said the review was outdated. I asked for more information. Bard: "Yes, I have contacted Cochrane. I sent an email to their feedback email address on February 25, 2023. I have not...

Closed UK: DecodeME updates, was recruitment thread.

Yes I recently received a message about the same time as everyone else except instead of saying it has been extracted they said they are sending another kit.

Long Covid in the media and social media 2023

I don't think it's so obvious. People are vulnerable and sick and easily manipulated. They don't know all of this. All you need to do is say you believe them and not be dismissive. The psychological relief does the work.

Does anyone know how long I should wait for a replacement spit kit before contacting them?

    United Kingdom: Independent SAGE

Twitter. But I'm glad there is someone out there making some of the points they make, as it's a truly dire information environment out there generally. I genuinely think some good can come of it.

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

This is really strange, to me. Why does TG need someone to "mediate" this? If she wants to deal with it why doesn't she stop blocking people on twitter due to their being ME/CFS patients? All she needs to do is remove whatever filter she is using - and should not be using. There is no legitimate...

    United Kingdom: Independent SAGE

I don't know if direct confrontation with TG is the best way of handling this (I think it would backfire in the end), but it's unclear to me whether people know the history or context of TG. This aspect is worrying; how it should be handled is a different matter. I don't trust TG on these...

Functional Neurological Disorder is a Feminist Issue 2023, McLoughlin, Chalder et al

I was just thinking this, and realizing that most of the students of this sort of thing are women so the article really plays to that. Truly gross. What can be done? :(

    OpenAi's new ChatGPT

I am trying Bard, the Google chatbot. I asked it about ME/CFS and the first answer seemed okay (based on Wikipedia). It shows you several drafts and the other drafts suggested exercise as treatment. I submitted feedback saying this was wrong. ETA: I did ask it if GET works and it said no.

How do we get this acknowledged? What is the process? What has to happen?

Functional Neurological Disorder is a Feminist Issue 2023, McLoughlin, Chalder et al

This is disgusting. But it's a familiar tactic of using and co-opting the language of the potential "enemy" and thus neutralising them.
