Oliver Sacks Put Himself Into His Case Studies. What Was the Cost?

Um I read the New Yorker article…not sure you need to. Tldr Sacks “embellished” some of his case studies.

Emerging and underrecognized viral triggers of autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease flares, 2025, Melano et al

Autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs), such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, substantially affect quality of life, with viral infections increasingly recognized as potential but underappreciated triggers of worsening preexisting AIRD symptoms. Despite growing evidence...

Trial Report Plasma cell targeting with the anti-CD38 antibody daratumumab in ME/CFS -a clinical pilot study, 2025, Fluge et al

Are we sure that Fluge specifically called out GPCR antibodies? @Jonathan Edwards has been skeptical of the German antibody claims. IIRC, his argument was that if these antibodies were a factor they would need to be much much higher than normal levels, and they weren’t.

    I suspected a hidden killer lurked inside my body. Here’s what I found.—Preventative MRI’s

Try it now—should have been a gift link. It’s about using “preventative” MRIs to catch early stage diseases/cancers. But insurance won’t pay for it. It’s a bit hard to summarize because there is a tongue in cheek element to the writing—which makes it a mostly fun read.

    I suspected a hidden killer lurked inside my body. Here’s what I found.—Preventative MRI’s

Loss of CRH neurons and other neural changes in ME/CFS autopsy study - University of Amsterdam

https://www.healthrising.org/blog/2025/12/04/chronic-fatigue-hpa-axis-autopsy/ All in all, the HPA axis with the dramatic reduction of CRH-producing neurons in the hypothalamus, a shutdown of the pituitary, and lower cortisol levels found appeared to be pretty much of a wreck in these...

Trial Report Plasma cell targeting with the anti-CD38 antibody daratumumab in ME/CFS -a clinical pilot study, 2025, Fluge et al

Well we know that the NK cells are depleted quickly with the first dose. So I’m not sure what doing a couple of injections in a row does. If you space them over a longer period like every 2 months it might make sense because things start to come back. If you do a couple of shots in a row over a...

Broad-spectrum antiviral brincidofovir inhibits Epstein-Barr virus and related gammaherpesvirus in human and nonhuman primate cells 2025 Donaldson

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is of growing interest for its potential role in neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and its possible utility as a therapeutic target in herpesvirus-associated chronic diseases. The effects of brincidofovir (BCV) on EBV reactivation were evaluated...

Trial Report Plasma cell targeting with the anti-CD38 antibody daratumumab in ME/CFS -a clinical pilot study, 2025, Fluge et al

Thanks for posting this. It would be nice to know if any of these patients were not female (i.e. males!). The response by week 2 doesn’t jibe with the response timeline of the initial 6 patients.

Had to rewind it a couple of times to catch “how to put a binbag in the bin”. If you went into a supermarket in the USA and asked for a binbag I’m sure they would point you towards the beanbags.
