UK: Obituary for scientist Colin Blakemore, authored by Fiona Fox, mentions CFS

Links to Daisymay's posts about Colin Blakemore's role in the MRC and the idea of ME/CFS patients as dangerous activists: Blakemore also seems to have been instrumental in establishing the PACE trial. Dear Fiona, I think we are indeed prepared to be bolder and braver, thanks. The problems...

Could the kynurenine pathway be the key missing piece of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) complex puzzle?, 2022, Kavyani

Indeed, Guillemin has come to our attention before. He co-authored this paper, also on the Kynurenine pathway The Role of Kynurenine Pathway and NAD + Metabolism in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2022, Dehhaghi et al which I see I described as "a naive and biased romp...

"Gastrointestinal symptoms, diet and health-related quality of life in ME/CFS" 17-minute recording of Breanna Weigel presentation

Still, my fatigue is substantially relieved by rest. I can be incapable of functioning, I have an afternoon sleep and then I can make a meal. I think it is a problem in the criteria.

The Qigong of Prolong Life With Nine Turn Method Relieve Fatigue, Sleep, Anxiety and Depression in Patients With CFS:, 2022, Xie et al

Indeed. But, if you believe ME/CFS is psychosomatic, then I guess it doesn't matter all that much what the treatment is. You go through the motions of treating the patient and, provided the treatment is convincing enough, the patient reports feeling better, and so, the job is done. One...

"Gastrointestinal symptoms, diet and health-related quality of life in ME/CFS" 17-minute recording of Breanna Weigel presentation

Well, I'm easily fatigued I guess, in that it's hard to walk and especially hard to walk up hills if I walk for any length of time. But, rest fixes the difficulty walking. Most mornings I wake up feeling a bit ill and exhausted. A bad day is when I have to retire to my bed for the afternoon...

Metabolomic Evidence for Peroxisomal Dysfunction in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2022, Levine,Hornig,Lipkin et al

Yes, sorry, I did get rather carried away last night. I had a coffee later than I should have, and then it was a nice change to see a study that might actually explain something after the bad Australian knyurenine paper. I liked that the findings with this paper seemed to be in line with other...

"Gastrointestinal symptoms, diet and health-related quality of life in ME/CFS" 17-minute recording of Breanna Weigel presentation

It's a nice presentation. I think the suggestions that Breanna makes at the end are important i.e. need a study with healthy controls. The way they have defined GI problems, I think most healthy women might experience GI problems, e.g. bloating, even if at just a low level. Also, I think they...

Yes, this does seem to be a well recognised thing. I recall cases particularly around Sydney, people develop an intolerance to meat due to tick bites. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-18/how-ticks-can-cause-mammalian-meat-allergy/10719136

The Qigong of Prolong Life With Nine Turn Method Relieve Fatigue, Sleep, Anxiety and Depression in Patients With CFS:, 2022, Xie et al

That's pretty intensive CBT. Primary outcome - MFI-20 - fatigue Secondary outcomes - Overall efficacy evaluation - probably as good as any subjective measure - 4 levels - basically complete cure, nearly a cure, a significant improvement, and minimal or no change, also incorporating the MFI-20...

The Qigong of Prolong Life With Nine Turn Method Relieve Fatigue, Sleep, Anxiety and Depression in Patients With CFS:, 2022, Xie et al

Th recognition that GET and CBT might not be effective treatments is good, although I'm not sure where the schizophrenia fits in. That's Friedberg F. ME/CFS: Primer for clinical practitioners. (2014). Available online at: www.iacfsme.org. (accessed July 2014). That primer should be withdrawn...

Metabolomic Evidence for Peroxisomal Dysfunction in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2022, Levine,Hornig,Lipkin et al

This is for the whole ME/CFS sample versus all the controls. This sort of sounds good, but it's quite a bit of fiddling with the data. For example, I wonder how much race/ethnicity or even geography actually influenced metabolite levels, and if the adjustment process might have happened to...

Metabolomic Evidence for Peroxisomal Dysfunction in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2022, Levine,Hornig,Lipkin et al

The build up of those two compounds is consistent with the itaconate shunt hypothesis, because the itaconate stops the breakdown of succinate (and I think alpha-ketoglutarate is upstream of succinate). Itaconate shunt hypothesis video—Robert Phair

https://bscb.org/learning-resources/softcell-e-learning/peroxisome/ Acetyl-CoA is of course a neurotransmitter and is important in the TCA cycle. It possibly makes sense that if the cell goes into low energy mode, reducing energy production in the TCA cycle so that pathogens can't use the...

Metabolomic Evidence for Peroxisomal Dysfunction in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2022, Levine,Hornig,Lipkin et al

Some background: https://med-life.ca/plasmalogens Peroxisomes are organelles in the cell (the pink blobs). They make plasmalogens and acetyl-CoA and other things, and break down excess long chain fatty acids, uric acids and other things that might be a problem if they aren't broken down...

Could the kynurenine pathway be the key missing piece of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) complex puzzle?, 2022, Kavyani

I've just got around to reading some of the paper. The abstract is a fair indication - it's a real mess of misinformation throughout. One of the authors, Gilles Guillemin was promoting the paper on Linked In as great team work, and I have to wonder, has he even read it? What for example has...
