United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

I have no words for the Neil Riley article. What on Earth? Is there no one at MEA who thought to challenge this? Do they not have any guidelines for contributors? Literally insulting the membership is ok? There should be an expectation that you can share your own experiences but not make...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

I was just looking at amazon reviews of the book to see how it was being received (mostly good, 64% 5*). One review gives this quote from the book: “if we're constantly repeating a story like “I'm so exhausted’ our physiology will respond and it will affect our mood and disorder. MIND BLOWING...

I didn't take this as implying failure on anyone's part but about acceptance and being ok with not being complete and 'sorted'. I hope Miranda focuses more on the acceptance aspect rather than the pseudoscience stuff (which often dresses itself up as acceptance but underneath is the opposite).

Miranda on instagram today: 'Since working again (a very little bit at a time) I have been able to live out the treasures from my book. And they all were relevant in every moment. And necessary. And reminded me more than ever of Treasure 9 - there will always be a “setback”. Or rather, trust...

United Kingdom News (including UK wide, England, NI and Wales - see separate thread for news from Scotland)

'They sort of see it in a similar category to ME which is also kind of a sort of difficult one in terms of....' I wish he'd let her finish there because I think it would have been very revealing about what doctors really think of ME.

I genuinely cannot tell if this is CFS or my other health problems

A lot of the diagnoses you've mentioned can cause fatigue. It's impossible to know if you do have CFS as well. But if you focus on trying to manage your other conditions, that can only help if you do have CFS. And if you do have CFS, there's not much you can do about it anyway. In my...

Well-known, famous people with ME/CFS (public thread)

Solange Knowles, Beyonce's sister, posted this on instagram in response to Shaun's post. She has a diagnosis of POTS Sjogren's and MCAS.

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

That's true. When my mum was an inpatient receiving chemo for lymphoma, she was told by an NHS physiotherapist that her emotions and mindset would affect the outcome of her treatment. She was extremely unwell and there was a very real chance that she wouldn't survive. It was completely...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

If she does have a crash post-publication, I hope she doesn't believe it to be a result of the negativity that's been directed at her from pwME. (I'm not saying there shouldn't be any criticism - some of the things she's written about exercise curing tiredness are dangerous and need to be...

I could have written that myself. I feel the same and I think 'giving people hope' has to be realistic otherwise what sounds helpful can actually make things worse.

100% agree about wealth and ability to pace. I'm not saying there's a correlation between wealth and susceptibility. But of those who are susceptible, the ones with money are more able to follow it through.

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

I imagine Miranda does have more money than most but I think ME is a situation where it doesn't matter how much money you have. I mean, obviously it makes life more comfortable but it terms of recovery I don't think it can do much. In a way, the more money you have, the more you have to spend on...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

I think my point here is that it's not Miranda who's the problem, it's the greedy 'wellness practitioners' who have targeted her because of her fame in the hope that she will do free PR for them. They will have told her that there is 'research' to show that stress precedes ME and that anger...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

She's been told that by someone she trusts. Believing what you're told by someone who presents as an expert at a time when you're vulnerable, ill and afraid, doesn't mean you're not a compassionate person. Being a compassionate person doesn't mean that you get everything right all of the time...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

Miranda wrote on her insta today 'What I learnt is not a medical cure for chronic illness but the answers I found to live well and joyfully despite it'. And also, 'Just felt the need to reiterate that what I share in my book, from wide research, were answers that helped me live my life more...

    Miranda Hart - British comedian

Miranda's been talking about chronic illness, including ME, on her social media for a long time. I don't know if the Lyme diagnosis is relatively new, it seems to be. Unfortunately, Alex Howard seems to have a PR strategy which involves spending a lot of his time and energy on famous patients...
