BBC Radio Scotland: Brainwaves, "ME - The Invisible Disease"

Agree with most of comments above. I'm not too keen on Charles Shepherd's adoption of the PPP approach, which seems to me to be a BPS model. I don't believe anything predisposed me to be ill and I don't see that my illness is being perpetuated. No one would say that MS or encephalitis is being...

(Not a recommendation) Alastair Miller: The prognosis of CFS/ME

Yes, I've seen him use this 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 before. He says it's 'using best available therapy', but the same rough guide was being used in the 1970s as a prognosis without any intervention. (Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone else has seen that 1970s quotation and could link me to it, could...

The ICO are still considering the matter. I'll let everyone know once a decision is made.

Spinal cord injury-induced immunodeficiency is mediated by a sympathetic-neuroendocrine adrenal reflex (2017) Prüss et al

https://www.nature.com/articles/nn.4643 Just today came across this study from September. Seems interesting to me. "Our study was based on the premise that nerve pathways originating in the spinal cord exert a direct influence on organs involved in the immune system, such as lymph nodes and...

Trial By Error: Bristol’s Complaint to Berkeley [Short Tuller blog 23rd December 2017]

Yes, that's what struck me. But it is strangely worded, as so much about this trial is. I think I'll still use it. I presume she is saying that data as collected are anonymous. Or something.

Trial By Error: Bristol’s Complaint to Berkeley [Short Tuller blog 23rd December 2017]

Interesting. I hadn't seen that COPE before. I was particularly struck by this line: In addition, the data were collected anonymously, which would further exempt the study from requiring formal ethical approval. Am I correct that here Crawley is claiming dispensation from gaining further...

    Documents from the SMILE trial

We've tried many times to involve Goldacre but for some reason the former student of Simon Wessely refuses to look at it. He's too busy, apparently. Though not too busy to tweet about harassment of researchers by ME militants.

    Documents from the SMILE trial

I have today received the result of the review undertaken by Bristol about the SMILE trial data.. They still claim an exemption. I'll refer it to the ICO. It usually takes about 4 months to get a decision.

Woman 'with ME' won world kickboxing championship

I agree with all these comments. Definitely a case of a retweet but not an endorsement.

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

Hehe. I'd recommend some painkillers to get through it. I think actually that is an important point: I suspect she kept the image because of its obvious impact, but continued to claim it was sent to her precisely in order to make the joke. It does get a reaction. (As well as making us...

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

I haven't read the whole of this thread on here, but can say the following: Someone else contacted Gill. That person prefers not to be named. They forwarded me an email from Gill that said (direct quotation): This is a photo illustration I created for an article that was published in The...

Yes, I'll get their reasons why they won't provide me with it on Friday. At least, that's what I'm anticipating.
