From looking at the video, I think that Dr. Klimas is talking about the post-exercise network analysis being very different in CFS, GWI and normal controls. I think this change in network activity after exercise is why she refers to looking at the system "dynamically."
In GWI the network is...
This is a fascinating video. If I understand it correctly, they have tried to simulate the complex interactions of the immune system using a large computer system specifically built for that purpose. They believe that, in both ME/CFS and Gulf War Syndrome, the immune system has been perturbed...
There is some suggestion from Dr. Davis' work with the nano-needle that a small molecule may be interfering with the cellular metabolism of ME patients.
If true, could this be demonstrated by giving both healthy and ME patient serum to mice and looking for different responses between the two...
Actually, I think this is pretty interesting, although I'm not sure how much can be extrapolated from measuring just oxygen, CO2, and hydrogen.
It might be interesting if a pill like this could sample the microbiome in some unreachable place, like the center of the small intestine, and return...
True - and it may, in fact, be that ME/CFS makes some patients more resistant to the flu (while making others more vulnerable).
I was just reading a 1978 paper by Dr. Gordon Parish that summarized some of the earlier (pre-Royal Free, 1955) ME outbreaks. One of the early conjectures about ME was...
Thanks for posting this @MErmaid. I was able to see it without any problem (I'm in the US).
It was very well done and very powerful. I hope it does indeed get nominated for the Oscar for Best Documentary ( I don't want to jinx it by hoping for more). I feel like that kind of international...
This is a really excellent article. One way you can tell...
Almost no one gets this detail right, even the official agencies. In 1999 Leonard Jason estimated the number of adult US case at 836,011, but this was based on population data from 1997, 21 years ago.
The adult (18+) US population...
A few years ago, at a meeting arranged by the The Massachusetts CFIDS/ME & FM Association, Dr. Anthony Komaroff was asked how he would distinguish patients with depression from patients with ME/CFS. To do so, he gave a really succinct description of PEM.
Points I would make (that others might disagree with):
What I consider PEM is always delayed and peaks the following day. Whether this is really 24 hours later, or is simply a matter of something like there having been a sleep interval since the exertion, I'm not sure.
[By an odd coincidence...
I've mentioned elsewhere that that there have been occasions when I have woken up after 4 hours of sleep, only to feel much better than if I had slept for 8 hours. It was interesting, but how could you continually get by on 4 hours of sleep? It never occurred to me to sleep in two 4 hour shifts...
This flu seems more widespread than usual, and more virulent (in California at least).
In an ideal world, there would be some kind of surveillance to see how many of the affected go on to develop ME/CFS. This seems like just the kind of event that would produce a lot of new cases.
You could...
True. It seems like a situation where you'd want to establish a baseline for honesty by asking something like, "How do you like this (flavorless) cake I made especially for you?"

It may be deceptive to compare the modest, but statistically significant, cytokine elevations seen in short-term ME/CFS patients to the higher levels that might be seen in more transitory conditions.
In the flu, the higher cytokine levels may be limited to a few days, whereas in ME/CFS the more...
Actually, it was about 9 months after the IOM released its report on 2/15/15 that Francis Collins announced on The Charlie Rose Show on 11/04/15 that the NIH would be looking into ME/CFS.
Something else happened in that time frame, though. About two weeks after the IOM report was published...
