Guardian: "Britain has closed its eyes to long Covid"

I wonder what is going on with Covid in other countries, particularly those that did well in terms of public health protection early in the outbreak, such as Taiwan and New Zealand. I wonder if any country anywhere is facing reality.

Alcohol Intolerance poll. Please do the poll even if your answer is no.

Thanks for setting this new thread up, @Jonathan Edwards. I've been avoiding alcohol for so long now that I can't remember the symptoms that led me to avoid it, so I'll not answer the questionnaire!

MRC-funded grant proposals on ME/CFS by year, 2003–2023, along with the total number of proposals received that year.

Would you like to start a new thread on it, to get attention? This sounds like a very good idea.

MRC-funded grant proposals on ME/CFS by year, 2003–2023, along with the total number of proposals received that year.

That's interesting - I've not been aware of having this symptom except when I'm in the run-up to a migraine or already have one. I didn't have this even when I was 95% confined to bed. From what I've read, I thought it was only something that affected the most severely ill patients. That's an...

    The Concept of ME/CFS

@Jonathan Edwards - looks very good to me, just one grammatical nit-pick: 'The concept of ME/CFS (notionally standing for myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome), has evolved...' shouldn't have a comma after the bracket.

MRC-funded grant proposals on ME/CFS by year, 2003–2023, along with the total number of proposals received that year.

This is very cheering. I'm struck by how much variation there is on the forum concerning symptom patterns. I'll often read an account of someone's symptoms here that I don't recognise from my own experience (as well as a lot of commonalities, of course). I'm wondering how that can be tackled...

MRC-funded grant proposals on ME/CFS by year, 2003–2023, along with the total number of proposals received that year.

This is fascinating. I didn't even know there were lesions in RA (nodules?). That's a really extraordinary achievement, and with a huge impact on the lives of thousands of very ill people. What a fantastic thing! But is our problem in ME/CFS that we don't have signs that are physically...

Maybe he doesn't know S4ME exists, or what it is. Can he be invited?

Insights from triggers and prodromal symptoms on how migraine attacks start: The threshold hypothesis, 2024, Sebastianelli et al

I have very clear food triggers. I can reliably give myself a migraine by eating certain things. I really wish I couldn't! :)

Crowdfunding for David Tuller starts October 1st 2024

I think you've hit the nail on the head there about a lot of disagreements between experts - journalists aren't in a position to adjudicate on these things, and nor are even many other experts in the same field, given how specialised many areas are. What we need is direct debate between the...

United Kingdom: News from #There for ME

Karen Hargrave has posted on Twitter asking people (patients, carers, friends, rellies) to contact their MPs to ask for an inquiry, if they live in these constituencies:

    The Concept of ME/CFS

@Jonathan Edwards - Done my best with the editing of the references in the absence of any style rules that I could find on Qeios's website - I've just gone for internal consistency, and when in doubt, I've checked the article webpages themselves for how some of the unusual refs should be cited...

    The Concept of ME/CFS

Thanks again, @Jonathan Edwards. Can just see one thing on p. 4: 'I would suggest that the first lesson to learn is that whatever confusion has arisen it is our fault, not the patients.' - Should be '...patients'.' with an apostrophe.

Nutrition Intake in Patient with ME/CFS Compared to Healthy Controls, 2024, Liljebo

Quite apart from GI issues, I wonder how much of it is down to simply not moving enough to need the normal amount of calories.

Ignored, blamed, and sometimes left to die – leading expert ME explains origins of a modern medical ‘scandal’, Chris Ponting, The Conversation, 2024

Very useful to have your analysis from your Oxfam experience. I agree this maybe isn't the place to discuss this. But where is? Can we move things forward?

Excellent! This might or might not be the place to discuss this but speaking with one voice to make this request is a project that will require leadership. How could we take that forward?
