'Pacing for people with M.E.' Action for ME booklet - revised and updated January 2020.

I think at some point however unfortunate, we all must learn some things by our experience. I find this illness surreal. There are still days I have moments where I think -- this can't be happening. IMO good detailed guidance will still need independent validation by the person...

NICE guidelines: Final scope and equality impact assessment published

"Recovery from ME/CFS is complex to define". I have a wee bit of trouble with that line . . . Seems rather convenient. Subsequent discussion of recovery has been moved to 'Recovery' statistics

"Microplastics:Premium teabags leak billions of particles - study"

I think this might be the study the news is based on: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.9b02540 Part of the abstract: The composition of the released particles is matched to the original teabags (nylon and polyethylene terephthalate) using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)...

Treating medically unexplained symptoms via improving access to psychological therapy (IAPT): major limitations identified, 2020, Geraghty and Scott

At this point things being what they are in the world, it may be possible to argue for a precedent on the grounds that justifying a defence on best evidence given the facts would encourage future abuses of the same kind. Or so I'm going to think until reality kicks in.

Trial By Error: CBT and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

With regards to Moss-Moriss and the rest of the cabal: If facts were scenery CBT is a bullet train straight to the destination. No need to complicate things. Everything en route to destination is irrelevant. Any contrary thing is just an obstacle to overcome (they have right the strong mental...

Guardian - Chronic pain: prescribe mental health support as well as drugs, say experts (Feb 2020)

Yes, it is interesting that the opposite argument is used for CBT for ME. A few may benefit so everyone should be made to try it. Of course it's not a drug so no possibility that it might harm -- especially if there is no procedure for reporting harms.

Bias due to a lack of blinding: a discussion

That makes sense to me. But also, another way to view this possibly is that people confuse rationalisation with logic or being rational. I think sometimes people who are rationalising something they want to believe are not aware that is what they are doing seeing it only as logical thinking.

Bias due to a lack of blinding: a discussion

IMO the people who make this kind of statement already think they are being rational even though they are working off of a belief system. They are impervious to considering any alternative possibility.

A Future Without ME/CFS: True causes and effective treatment strategies. Seminar with Dr Dietrich Klinghardt plus guest speakers. 15th Feb 2020

PS Dear conference goers --please bring money. (probably left out the above by accident) I had that exact song lyric response.

United Kingdom: News from BACME - British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS

This sounds to me like a group of very serious Kool-aid drinkers. They have completely embraced corporate culture and think they are serving the chronically ill. All of the multi-disciplinary skill sets they are acquiring are really about their own perfection (or so the blather sounds to me)...

Ah, thank-you, I missed that. I am completely lost when faced with the various codes and their explanations. Apologies for the confusion on my part.

Good point about the rise of ACT that seems to coincide with their weakening language around 'recovery' with the exception of Per Fink et al in Denmark (his viking designation would be Per Fink The Die Hard perhaps).

Norway: Opinion piece by prof. Saugstad: Give ME patients help that works

This is just a general comment. There is such a thing as rumination and too much can be a problem. I don't think we should categorically dismiss the possibility of thought pathologies. This is not directed at @rainy. I also suspect that any thought pathology is likely way over diagnosed...

Norway: Opinion piece by prof. Saugstad: Give ME patients help that works

This is quite a bit more limited in scope than any previous writing or speaking on the subject of CBT. IMO though it is still overstated as to efficacy. So a big benefit then. That benefit being? I've never heard it stated. And she's talking about secondary issues ie depression which we...

Functional Neurological Disorders - discussion thread

Hi @Mithriel Generally speaking I agree with the rest of what you say but I'd qualify this statement. I think they (BPS) believe that because it is neurological that while it is physical it is also to do with the brain and therefore to do with the mind and therefore the physical symptoms can...

Functional Neurological Disorders - discussion thread

Re Lady Gaga's explanation-- I agree that it is a very normal response especially from people who have a strong need to be seen and heard (ie most people). We all write our stories as we go through life. This is actually an example of the 'uncertainty principle' I think that is discussed in...

BABCP Spring Workshops and Conference KCL 16th to 17th April, 2020

I'd like to hear from some people who have been 'thriving' after having been subjected to TC's well-established (over decades) CBT. So many people have been affected by poorly defined and treated chronic illnesses. The purveyors of CBT (still) seem to think their CBT model is a viable tool to...
