New book: "M.E. and Me: A Doctor's Struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"

I have to admit this Dr with ME seems (or so it feels) like the tip of the iceberg in that all of a sudden PwME are everywhere sharing their story. Where were they last year -- 5 years ago etc? Is there an epidemic occurring?

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

It just occurred to me to post what TED says about TED talks. The link provides their rules for giving a talk: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf ETA: clearly TEDx Bristol has been co-opted by people who know squat about science (or don't care).

Esther Crawley - Uni of Exeter 17th Nov Mood Disorders seminar

Or correlating the incidence of "chronic fatigue" with depression in teens. High incidence of both and prevalence of correlation. Betting a jar of (invisible) magic beans.

    PEM from too little activity?

Just a short note you might not have considered. I don't know how long you've been ill but whatever you have learned from experience about your symptoms you will have to relearn (or simply adjust). What you know now about your ME will change over time. I think this is true for everyone to...

    Unrest film - Jen Brea

That's an interesting twist. But then I noticed that AfME were partners of some sort (sorry already can't remember specifics) on the Unrest site. Holgate & Chowdhury trying to shine up their image in the ME community. I'm inclined to not be in a great hurry to be forgiving of people who have...

As a psychologist I see the fantasy of neoliberal values having a devastating effect on mental healt

TO my understanding Neoliberal means corporate or technocratic rule. Corporations co-opted Milton Friedman's new liberalism for their own benefit and use it with an Orwellian meaning.

    Bizarre sleep pattern

I alternate between getting only 6 hours sleep which leaves me completely unable to manage my usual limited functioning and 14 hours of sleep which if I manage that for several weeks/months allows something more like a best baseline functioning which I do more at my peril. Even on my good days...

Yes, thanks @Wonko This is my bad. I see they are visible in the welcome section but did not when looking. Poorly functioning at the moment.

As a psychologist I see the fantasy of neoliberal values having a devastating effect on mental healt

Thank you for that wise ruling. There is parsing each word for the literal meaning of a thing and then there is the intent of a rule. It is important to consider the concerns of the people posting over and legalistic rendering of a rule. Wording of any rules can only be a guide not an...

Some good resources for gut health?

Hi @markiemark I found this not long ago: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4425030/ Don't know if it would be of any use. There are lots of references to troll through at the end.

    Do you have throat problems?

Yes, I don't know about the redness but I have a chronic cough and often sore throat, tender glands. Although I sometimes wonder if this is due to MACS as opposed to ME proper. It's worse at the moment and it's been an utterly glorious fall and I've been laying on a lounge chair in the...
