My eldest used to say her problem was that she would see a man in a nightclub who looked very attractive - until they opened their mouth...;)
Of course I'm sure this problem works both ways for women and men of any sexuality or gender identity!
It might not be controversial, but that doesn't mean it is empirically correct. I really don't give much credence to these sorts of surveys and informal observations, for multiple reasons. Obviously, people can have opinions on this issue, but that doesn't mean there is any science or fact...
I also felt trapped in an abusive marriage because of having moderate to severe M.E. and not being able to be financially independent, as well as worrying about social services taking the children away if I were to leave my husband. I think 'gender identity' is the least of many M.E. sufferer's...
But you are only seeing those active in forums and support groups, this isn't necessarily reflective of the CFS/ME population overall (I've never joined a support group and only joined this forum about 15 months ago, despite having ME since 1993). I know my own daughters would be devastated if...
And I write as a female who has been kicked up the rear and had her head bashed against a concrete floor, while having her throat strangled, all for being 'lazy'...by a man who earned over £100,000 in the year I left him!
But that's not the same question as asking men and women how important it is that their prospective partner is well enough to have a steady job. For those men (and women) for whom this wasn't important, they may still have wanted a healthy partner - one who could still contribute to the marriage...
I'm very sorry for you, but your consultant gave you the best advice.
After reading the following article, I wouldn't even attend an outpatient appointment now, and would only go to hospital if it was an emergency...
It's bizarre behaviour from kids, isn't it? When I worked in secondary schools, if you asked kids what they had been doing over the weekend, the answer was always video gaming or social media! I am glad that in the UK, Mcdonalds has decided to close all their tables and only offer takeaway...
Yes, it probably depends on how well you can write and frame things. I am pretty good at reading and writing 'legalise' and thinking strategically, so have been successful when I've made NHS complaints (such as when I was having a very poor experience with my autism diagnosis assessments).
If...
I appreciate that. My youngest boarded for a while (the boarding didn't really work out so she became a day pupil to keep her scholarship) at an independent school with an international school attached. There were (still are) a lot of Chinese students. When their English is good enough they...
I think the thing to do if you experience discrimination from a GP practice in England is to complain to your CCG and not the practice itself. CCGs have to publish all their responses to formal complaints, so discrimination would be immediately highlighted.
I grew up sharing a bedroom with 2 sisters, not unusual for working class families even today - so how can most individuals in families self isolate? She is so far from understanding most peoples' reality, it's very scary.
The fact she is telling older and vulnerable people not to worry about the coronavirus, based on her own limited experience (as someone who is financially secure, in good housing and general health) speaks volumes.
In this article, she says when she got flu 15 years ago she was only ill for half a day! So she clearly had no personal experience of just how ill people with ME are (every day, for years on end)...
My personal prediction is that she will use this example of her 'fear' to bolster the BPS model of 'CFS/ME', not to increase her understanding of what having ME is really like.
Edit: I'm not sure if this breaks forum rules in relation to implying the future behaviour of an individual, but I do...
I'm not sure which thread to put this in, but here is an article on Clare Gerada's description of how she 'beat' the coronavirus. Somehow, despite having no underlying health conditions, she is being referred to as a 'veteran' of the illness...
Another issue with postponing school closures - I have been told of people being denied the opportunity to work from home, even where this is practical and possible. Their employer has said they will only allow this once the government close schools (and this is in London)!
Yes. Schools are not just full of young people, they are also large workplaces. Most schools have at least 1 adult employed for every child/young person, including teachers, support and admin staff - all working in a very close proximity (much closer than in an average office). Then there's also...
This is significant for PWME, because if they were affected this way many wouldn't be able to do cardiovascular exercise to improve their lung capacity.
