NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

It's actually worse than that, and upon reflection now I realise I could horrify forum members a whole lot more with some of the things I've learnt, but I still like to try to maintain a veneer of confidentiality and professionalism by not gossiping out of turn.

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

Not wanting to horrify anyone further, her actual words were "The therapist patient relationship is like a love affair, which can only work if the patient allows themselves to be vulnerable". I think I must have let my usual poker face slip, because she then back-tracked / clarified by saying...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

A few rambling thoughts from this week ... Yesterday I was teaching English to my favourite psychotherapist and we got on to the subject of the patient / therapist relationship. She expressed the view that the patient has to accept the therapist as a parent figure for there to be any progress...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

I think it is extremely important to judge everyone's commitment to upholding the Nolan principles, based on the information available. AfME seems to be suggesting that we should ignore all the information available (dismissed as "selected information found online, anecdotal accounts, and their...

Horses for courses: choosing an evidence-based psychological therapy for your patient, 2018, David McCormack, Trudie Chalder

When I have to fill in forms at the dentist etc I have adopted the benevolent lie of leaving the "other medical conditions" box blank. Fit as a fiddle me, thanks for asking. Just get a bit tired sometimes.

You didn't miss anything language-wise, "earlier" is just as unspecific for native English speakers. It just means previously, recently, before. Probably in the last day or so given the context, but only @Andy knows what it really means  ETA: just noticed Andy said "earlier on", so that...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

I'm afraid I've been having the opposite thought - if they are not announced as members, then they have been effectively silenced by being kept on tenterhooks until the end of the process. But as you say, neither of us has any idea. I wonder who does know what's going on?

    Research Associate (FITNET-NHS Trial)

Maybe all this talk of militant activist patients is driving potential researchers away and they can't fill the position?

WHO Endorses Traditional Chinese Medicine. Expect Deaths To Rise

In the Nature article, I think I may have spotted a clue here: Look's like it's in a few people's interests to take Mao Zedong's idea and run with it. This will allow governments to say they're keeping their promises to deliver universal healthcare. The fact that the treatments are ineffectual...

"Abnormal illness behaviour" and the missing citations.

Maybe they were people who just didn't want to go home, for whatever reason. When I spent a short time in hospital in the early 80s I was quite happy there because they had a better telly than ours (which was black and white and only got BBC Wales and HTV Wales unless you stood next to it waving...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

One way of interpreting this is that only non-professionals are capable of having a preformed view. The possibility that a professional could have a preformed view is discounted by virtue of the fact that they are a professional. That kind of stacks the deck. I may well be misinterpreting this...

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Welcome to the BPS misery go round. Anyone else suspect that when Clare says "Dr's" she actually means her husband? Does she really believe in Simon's infallibility, or is she merely unconsciously colluding with him lest his fragile defences are shattered by complaints, intense fatigue (you...
