Prof Holgate also said something along the lines re ME "there is almost a denial in medical circles of its existence, let alone how serious it is".
He was very pleased to be asked this question "as he has spent the last 7? years working on ME, that it is a very exciting time for the ME...
The interviewer commented that her mother had been ill with ME for several years, but was now largely better.
So often, there needs to be a "close encounter" before people take it seriously.
I like this response:

Evolving standards, responsive to new evidence?
He is one of the doctors suffering from Long Covid and is part of a WHO group that is looking into it.
Maybe they are a bit more wary of promoting their null results as the study involved GPs, ie doctors, who when they notice the bluff may get listened to.
Kidney disease, serious enough to require Haemodialysis (HD) is dreadful. The waste products you normally excrete build up until your next session, typically 3 times a week.
Your fluid intake and diet are hugely restricted.
These patients have every right to feel dreadful.
What is it with...
Totally agree re the support. A friend whose son was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma a couple of years into my daughter's illness commented that she was immediately directed to all the finacial and other support available. School were amazing and a wall in their lounge was covered in cards...
Friend of friend who is a trained counsellor, complains that she is only ever asked by referring doctor to "do CBT", not select the type of therapy that she deems most appropriate for the patient's actual situation!
I guess this is cheaper generally for NHS as they can churn out CBT therapists...
It is a great group: 4 clinicians who understand the reality of ME, 4 carers and 4 people with ME themselves. A few are members here.
We did have a great set of applicants, which has made it easier to recruit an excellent team.
The BPS/BACME promoters were notable by their lack of...
Hi @andymick and welcome.
These communication problems are disappointing, but I think we should remember that this project has only begun to be funded since September, so I should imagine that there is a great deal to sort out, including employing relevant staff etc.
So much has been done so...
From the above: " Only 2 outcomes, physical activities and emotional well-being, were assigned comparable importance by survey respondents and clinician-researchers. Five of the 19 outcomes important to survey respondents were not measured at all, and 8 rarely."
SO, how can they keep ignoring...
Here is one article where Mrs Wessely uses the "I overcame"...statement. There was an article in Pulse about the same time, but I can no longer accesss it:
MEDICAL OBSERVER OPINION
As a GP who has overcome coronavirus, here is what I want you to know
Dr Clare Gerada
Dr Gerada is the former...
Above petition reached 25k and has been sent to NICE. It is still ongoing if anyone still wants to sign.
Yes @Trish, had not realised how disappointing the Times letter was!
Wow, that speech is amazing and wide-ranging.
It not only covers COVID, the role and inequalities of ethnic minorities in the NHS, also issues relating to women and doctors who are disabled/have a long term condition. Also the future needs for the NHS which have been exposed by the pandemic...
Exactly the word I was thinking @NelliePledge
Saw a headline yesterday re article by his wife. Something like "What doctors need to know, How I overcame COVID...."
Just reinforcing that those with strength/fight etc will recover and be fine. The smugness and superiority is nauseating.
Letter says 150 more signatories online. From an article in Pulse and comments from doctorsnet, many GPs and other doctors are really anti this draft as well.
