In one of the CDC papers by Bill Reeves and team, they said they excluded people from the diagnosis of CFS if they had a positive Romberg test. I haven't heard any one else doing it. It doesn't seem like a good idea.
CDE stands for Common Data Elements. Researchers in the US will be encouraged to use scales that are mentioned under the different categories. This could perhaps influence what researchers in other countries do.
If anyone felt inclined, it would be interesting to get the baseline scores for the SF-36 physical function questionnaire using a freedom of information request.
