Useful gadgets that make life easier for MEcfs patients and carers

Ours were about 6cm, and we had to raise them to 10cm to accommodate the robo-vac (we call it Dalek, because of the noises it makes). Luckily our other furniture already had a nice gap. I got one a couple months ago, and love it. We got a wireless keyboard to go with it, so I can use it on...

Better Science through Better Data 25th October 2017 - Esther Crawley!

Maybe the Sunday Times could be informed of what she's been doing with the image, and rescind their permission to use it.

Better Science through Better Data 25th October 2017 - Esther Crawley!

It clearly wasn't sent to her, since a newspaper created it :-P It's not clear if it's a reproduction of an actual letter or phone call. But it does sound like it wasn't sent in that form, eg with the text formed from magazine cut-outs, since the newspaper wouldn't own the image if that were...

Better Science through Better Data 25th October 2017 - Esther Crawley!

That's why she isn't displaying an actual note she received. They simply aren't that bad (as the FOI tribunal found), and she also doesn't want to repeat someone's accusation that she's sadistic and delusional, or the implication that she thinks a disease can be cured with exercise. So it's...

Useful gadgets that make life easier for MEcfs patients and carers

Wheelchair - no more death marches or making myself sick standing around too long. Mobility scooter - I can go do fun stuff when I'm feeling well enough :D Shower chair - helps keep my heart rate down, especially if I have one leg propped up Heart rate monitor - water resistant, so very...

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

Insincere is the key word. She knows she's lying. She knows what reality is, and it isn't what she's saying. She's not deluded in her accusations against patients - she's a liar.

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

I doubt it. She knows what she's doing: she's launched a deliberate and systematic campaign against ME/CFS patients. Though she might be delusional about some aspects of ME/CFS itself :-P

BBC wrong to not challenge climate sceptic Lord Lawson

Yeah, media embedding is malfunctioning, and it happens automatically whether I want it to or not o_O I put an embedded link into normal text to avoid it for now.

BBC wrong to not challenge climate sceptic Lord Lawson

I think this is the same climate change BS which the Science Media Centre (SMC) was promoting at the same time with Esther Crawley's SMILE trial. If so, the BBC may have lost their appetite for what the SMC has been feeding them.

Cellular bioenergetics is impaired in patients with CFS (2017) Tomas, Strassheim, Newton et al

From what I understand, the research was done on PBMCs, which are certain types of blood cells. Basically it would include B cells, T cells, NK cells, and monocytes. So those are all cells involved in the immune system. The cells of the ME/CFS patients didn't respond nearly as well to stress...

Autonomic nervous system function, activity patterns, & sleep after physical or cognitive challenge

Yeah. If there's any doubt regarding whether it's a BPS or Biomedical study, it's almost always BPS :-P They thrive on doubt, whereas biomedical research tends to be about seeking clarity.

Autonomic nervous system function, activity patterns, & sleep after physical or cognitive challenge

They're BPS fatigue researchers - fans of CBT and GET, plus subjective outcomes. Two are psychiatrists, two are from a CBT/GET "fatigue clinic", and the other two seem like general fans of the healing powers of exercise. Most of them co-authored a letter where they expressed the belief that...

Using Heart rate monitoring to help with pacing.

It can help to restructure activities a bit to avoid the worst problems. Eg, use a shower chair and rest for a minute or two after each bit of scrubbing, don't raise arms over your head (or tuck elbows down at least).

Cross-Cultural Study of Information Processing Biases in CFS

The Dutch education system is very different. Starting around age 11-12, students go to three different types of high schools, basically geared at either going to trade school at 16 with some apprenticeship, normal university at 17, or a research/science university at 18. Which track they end...

John The Jack / A Response to Fiona Fox

Primarily focused on Fox's blog post claiming the Science Media Centre isn't biased, with a lot of specific questions as to what steps they take to ensure that. He also calls out some of the more blatant bullshit: The whole blog is well worth a read, as always :D

    Unrest film - Jen Brea

My thought is that the image you posted isn't a copyright issue, since the image quality is low enough that we can't read the article. But it is nice to see the image of the article, since that demonstrates the high profile of the story. I can't imagine the publisher having a problem with it...

Medical Independent: Is it just ME or is this a real disease?

The author doesn't seem to have involvement with ME/CFS, but learned about it from the novel written by Nasim Marie Jafry: He talks about the downfall of PACE a fair bit, which gives us a look from an outsider's perspective:
