Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

Maybe it was a good ploy to sit on the fence a while back. Let's hope she slips down the right side!

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

I really don't know, I am afraid. We have a deposit down on a holiday in July abroad. I am tending to take the view that we assume we are going unless there is advice not to - in which case there is a reasonably good chance of getting money back because the operator will have to cancel.

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

I agree that there are lots of questions about ME but I am unclear what that has to do with this thread and the recent posts?

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

I actually think that at the moment the chances of any of us in the UK having picked up the virus so far is less than one in a million - even if we travelled around London on the tube. But I think people need to start thinking about being more careful from now on. It does seem crazy that...

Robert Naviaux' Lab - News - from 2019 onwards

As someone who gets asked to advise the big funders on these things I have to say that this is unimpressive. We need hard data and caution.

The Hans Eysenck affair: Time to correct the scientific record (2019) David F Marks

I think in that situation I would be p***** off it wasn't a Pisco sour, or at least a delicate rare Fino. But I see what you meant.;)

What they mean by evidence based medicine.

This is not what Evidence Based Medicine was intended to mean when it was proposed. It seems to be the usual post-truth modern version - politically correct, free of any discrimination, such as old wives' tale-ism (unfair discrimination against old wives' tales) our Facebook group says-ism...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

It was a her but yes. What annoys me is that some government chap criticised her for this saying we should all be following the guidance. But where is this guidance to be found? Why is it not read out on the BBC and ITV news and printed on the top of all paper and online newspapers? We are in a...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

It is all a matter of likelihoods. Clothes are as likely as masks to get infection on from the air but hands are much more likely to pick up virus from handholds that infected people have just used and I think viruses survive much better on moist skin than on cloth. Hence it is probably better...

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

I am not sure what you are suggesting is studied? Before we set up any large cohorts I would like to see some evidence that anyone with ME/CFS actually has had CCI. I have not yet seen any images that show that.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I am not sure I see the logic of that. I am assuming that people want to wear masks to protect themselves from inhaling virus from infected people. If you think you actually have the virus you need to do more than wear a mask - get medical advice and self-isolate etc. If you are trying to...

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome patients exhibit altered T cell metabolism and cytokine associations - [new article 2020]

It is not coming up on College Library access probably because ePub ahead of print. The abstract does not say anything very enlightening.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

We now have a coronavirus case in London. I suspect this will shift policy by tomorrow. I don't understand why Air China are still flying people in to UK.

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

I am not so sure. On the train back from Switzerland we watched everyone touching their faces all the time and realised we did the same. But since sharing a queue with 500 people from Beijing I have realised just how close I may be to being infected and I have not touched my face today except...

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

OK with me but I might get worried that if it goes on Facebook all the supermarkets will have empty shelves by tomorrow lunchtime! Fortunately we stocked up this afternoon.;)

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

Don't worry, my wife and I went shopping this afternoon for the provisions we need and we will be pretty much self-isolating anyway. I think it very unlikely that there are any false positives for a specific RNA assay. This isn't like an antibody or T cell response test where normal and...

UK Times:'What if the thing that’s making you physically ill is your mind?', Feb 2020, Rumbelow [includes ME]

I had forgotten - he was a co-author on the 1989 paper that claimed to be a speculative hypothesis paper about CBT for ME yet went on to say what should be done about 15 times (before any trials had been done). Perhaps the worst of all papers in the field.

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

There would be no point testing me for virus now. My only likely contact was last night with some mask-wearing people from a Beijing flight. If a was infected I would not have detectable virus for a few days almost certainly. But I agree that not everyone is getting this right. I would score as...
