Psychiatric characteristics of older persons with Medically Unexplained Symptoms, 2020, Hanssen et al

People carrying the burden of as yet unexplained and often debilitating physical symptoms have a higher level of psychological distress, but no higher level of psychiatric comorbidity. That doesn't look to me like evidence for any primary psychopathology, but rather just a normal reaction to a...

Patient's experiences and effects of non-pharmacological treatment for ME/CFS - a scoping mixed method review - 2020 - Mengshoel et al

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

“At that point, it’s a race against time,” he says, “because until you have a vaccine or treatment, containment is your only hope.” In the absence of a vaccine or treatment the only serious weapon we have against a new infectious disease is breaking the chain of transmission. I am genuinely...

Exploring the validity of the chalder fatigue scale in chronic fatigue syndrome - 1998 Morriss et al

The end goal must be to increase patient's sustainable activity capacity back to within the range of the healthy general population, which is definitely open to objective measurement. The it's subjectively defined, therefore only subjective outcome measures matter claim really make me angry. It...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

“Gentle exercise or walking made me worse—I would feel absolutely dreadful the next day.” You think that is dreadful? Just wait until the psychs get a hold of you and your 'deviant cognitions'. ––––––––– Dr Matt Prescott's comments are interesting. ––––––––– Every cloud has a silver...

Covid-19 - Psychological research and treatment

Medical training selects strongly in favour of high levels of stamina. Which leads to doctors not really understanding what it is like to not have high levels of stamina. (Not all doctors, but on average.)

'Plague of Corruption - Restoring Faith in the Promise of Science' - (p)review of book by Mikovits & Heckenlively

The moment Mikovits started consorting with Heckenlively, was the moment she threw what was left of her credibility off the cliff.
