United Kingdom: Science Media Centre (including Fiona Fox)

Does anybody think that a formal complaint should be made to the board of the SMC about that headline for the ME chapter. It seems unprofessional and liable to bring the organisation into disrepute? There is no way that the SMC could now pretend to be holding a proper impartial line. I know...

Did he not also play some role in PACE, whilst trying to keep a low profile. There is so much disingenuous writing about. It would be interesting if they could put dates to the stories about SW and give some details of the abuse and threats suffered, their credibility, the number of occurrences...

Thanks for the additional information @Lucibee . I presumed it must be something other than my interpretation. However it does seem an unusually clumsy piece of writing, regardless of any issues of taste, to leave the issue open, especially when she alluded to, and pointed out, the other...

I may be being even slower than usual, but I have been trying, and failing to deconstruct the "First they came for the communists" line, and its symbolism. Given the acknowledged reference by Fox to the RCP the obvious interpretation is that we are the "they" and she is the "communists", -the...

Unexplained post-acute infection syndromes, 2021, Choutka, Iwasaki, Hornig et al

That is the problem with ME. It is like a game of "Simon says". A statement cano nly be considered true if introduced by "Simon says..."

    Uk Dwp get new powers

That seems an unbelievably naive piece. There is nothing to worry about. The rules will be scrupulously adhered to. No doubt under strict supervision by administrators with complete knowledge of the legislation and statutory instruments, which, unlike all previous legislation and statutory...

Still, as it is now almost 70 years since the original work and attempts to conceptualise the problem are still having the utmost difficulty, it is remarkable that Ramsey and co made the advances which they did. Given the opposition. EDIT also, I'm not sure about the "small proportion". It...

Perhaps it is sometimes hard to remember whether it was Fiona Fox or Fiona Foster whose experiences are recounted.

It is reassuring to see that Justin Webb (of BBC fame and remuneration) says "This is the way to talk about science". Writing for the blurb is not without its dangers. EDIT typo

The " First they came for the communists..." quote. Could it by any chance be a reference to the Revolutionary Communist Party?

It makes you wonder who was briefing the media, for them to get it so wrong.

I thought they had been playing this game for nigh on forty years. If they haven't yet learned the rules it would be a surprise.

It obviously appeals to those who are critically minded. On Amazon it has five ratings. All five stars.

UK Parliament: ME/CFS Announcements: Statement by Health Secretary Sajid Javid, 12 May 2022

It has been obvious since 1989. EDIT It has always to be remembered that in his first full paper detailing his new methods SW reported that out of a potential sample of 50 patients eligible, 32 accepted treatment and 5 dropped out (1 claiming to be better). Of the remaining 27 4 finished...

Analysis of malingered psychological symptoms in a clinical sample for early detection in initial interviews, 2022, Barbosa-Torres et al

You would not rely on a paper written by people capable of producing that first sentence. Perhaps it did not translate well from the Spanish.

But the term Post viral was always ambiguous. Perhaps deliberately so. It was often interpreted as meaning post viral infection, leaving uncertain whether or not the virus had been cleared.

British Medical Association: "Known unknowns, and as yet medically unexplained diseases" by Dr David Strain

That is an interesting idea, but hadn't Straus virtually disowned all this ,and the associated names. The cases involved were no doubt of a similar nature to ME. But there seems no reason to select this as any meaningful starting point.
