Domestic abuse survivors twice at risk of long-term illnesses

The actual physical damage done by physical abuse is vastly underestimated but this sort of paper does not help, it just looks that way in the headline so it is given more credence than it deserves. These sort of BPS researchers don't start by wanting to know about realities for abuse victims...

Identification of actin network proteins, talin-1 and filamin-A, in circulating extracellular vesicles as blood biomarkers...ME/CFS 2019, Eguchi et al

There may be many paths to ME but since we know it can happen in outbreaks it means that any cause must explain that. To clarify, I believe that a channelopathy is a plausible cause for ME. To exclude the possibility because people with ME do not have a genetic problem in the DNA they were born...

Identification of actin network proteins, talin-1 and filamin-A, in circulating extracellular vesicles as blood biomarkers...ME/CFS 2019, Eguchi et al

People get ME in outbreaks. It may be that only people with a certain HLA type get ME after an infection because each HLA type is fairly common but the genetic causes of the channelopathies we know about are just too rare.

Identification of actin network proteins, talin-1 and filamin-A, in circulating extracellular vesicles as blood biomarkers...ME/CFS 2019, Eguchi et al

If ME is a channelopathy, it is unlikely to be genetic in orgin. There seems no reason to suppose you can't acquire a channelopathy from autoimmunity, environmental factors or infection damage. Some cancers cause an autoimmunity which mimics genetic movement disorders.

Post-exertional malaise in veterans with gulf war illness, 2019, Lindheimer Cook et al

I don't think they are distinguishing post exertional fatigue from post exertional malaise. I have thought about this and I experience problems immediately with exercise beyond my limits which seems to e what they are looking at here, but the true unique post exertional malaise of ME is delayed...

Reduced limbic microstructural integrity in functional neurological disorder, 2019, Diez et al

Jonathan Edwards says This hits the nail on the head. They have now got research that shows signs that can be found in a straightforward neurological examination which indicates FND in the same way MS can be shown. Now they are showing changes in the structure of the brain using up to date...

Oxidative stress in exercise training: the involvement of inflammation and peripheral signals, 2019, Francesca et al

I think that athletes who continually push their bodies beyond their energy production capabilities experience what we do when we push our bodies beyond our energy production capabilities. The difference is they push a healthy system to its limits while we struggle with an energy production...

Reduced limbic microstructural integrity in functional neurological disorder, 2019, Diez et al

This is what worries me. The mixed FND implies that all the categories they call FND, ME to IBS and everything inbetween, shares a common pathology of emotional disorder so it is a confirmation they are right to treat them all as conversion disorder. They are saying that the only thing wrong...

Reduced limbic microstructural integrity in functional neurological disorder, 2019, Diez et al

Yes, FND is claimed to be neurological problems with no physical deficits found, but now they are busy finding the physical signs in the brain for this "disease" that is purely psychological and behavioural. Doublethink is to weak a word to describe the mentality of these people. The cruelty...

Prevalence and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and Co-morbid Severe Health Anxiety, 2019, Daniels et al

I doubt if I am unusual but I actually have very low health anxiety compared to people I know. I am continually surprised when people rush to the doctor for a symptom I have had for years and just put up with. Any new symptom I get I assume is ME in the first place and then I do not want to go...

Abnormalities in the urine of people with ME/CFS? A clinician asks for feedback

Thank you for your explanations. Since in ME we are easily in the situation of sustained exertion at near to maximal levels does this mean we get burning because of increased acidosis from pyruvate? Or is the buffering system overloaded? Deep burning pain after exertion, even in a fit person...

Abnormalities in the urine of people with ME/CFS? A clinician asks for feedback

Off topic, but I had always thought the burning pain in my legs was due to a lactic acid buildup and one of the byproducts of anaerobic respiration was said to be lactic acid when I was teaching biology. There have been so many discoveries since that time, I wonder if you could explain about...

Inflammatory proteins are altered in chronic fatigue syndrome – a systematic review and meta-analysis, 2019, Strawbridge et al

King's college (and Anthony Cleare who is presumably AJ Cleare) are BPSers. I think they do this work to show they are looking at biology, but, sigh, there is nothing much there despite the protests of patients. It may not apply here, not read the paper, but the problem with studies of immune...

ME Association: “Get Well Soon” – Guest Blog by Louise Shepherd

My father died a week after his 50th birthday. He got lots of cards and it was obvious that people had taken great care not to send one that wished him a great year. The exceptions were the obvious ones like my scatty aunt and my granny who meant well but often missed :) I used to make a lot of...

The unifying diagnostic construct of bodily distress syndrome (BDS) was confirmed in the general population, 2019, Fink et al

I am really glad you said this. It seems so obvious, here and in FND, that if you define an illness as BDS or FND (and how does that work :) do they talk to each other?) then a few years later or if you look at a large population then you will find the same categories. Then they say this...

Effects of mirthful laughter on pain tolerance: A randomized controlled investigation, 2019, Lapierre et al

Wide spread burning pain is a good description of the myalgia part of myalgic encephalomyelitis. It is probably related to the waste products of anaerobic respiration, pyruvate and lactic acid. The association with widespread pain was lost when CFS was invented. That is when many people in the...

First evidence of immune response targeting brain cells in autism

And a fortune in research money has gone into disproving that vaccines cause autism. Now they are managing to move on.

Mike Snyder at Stanford symposium on the potential of smartphones to better understand diseases, inc ME/CFS (Simon M blog)

The overdiagnosis problem is because they look for indications not the actual disease. These sort of systems may actually prevent some of these problems. Of course the "downside" of breast cancer screening is often given as "women get themselves upset by being recalled" so the "woman as...

Harvard Medical School article: Chronic fatigue syndrome: Gradually figuring out what’s wrong. Komaroff. 2019

I suspect that we are in a basic survival mode most of the time because our bodies do not have enough ATP because of the broken aerobic respiration system. The Workwell studies show that we rely on anaerobic respiration for our basic needs like using a credit card for everyday food. We do not...
