Lol. I went through years where I was just the same. I consider myself at the phase beyond non 24, and it does not have a definition or name yet. My circadian rhythm is often totally broken. Until some years ago I was in non 24.
Sleep can be very messed up with ME. My own situation was similar to yours at one time but has been much more messed up than that. I do not know that anyone has solved it. Right now I live on several two hour naps per day. At one point I was on several five minute naps per day. In the deep past...
Conversion disorder is one of the last vestiges of Freudian psychiatry. We have moved past most of the rest, aside from some holdouts.
There is no credible evidence that conversion disorder even exists. Please see my signature.
Conversion disorder is most probably a fictitious illness, yet...
Yep. This is however an issue with how EBM is commonly practised, not how its supposed to be done. These are issues on evidence that are overlooked, or deliberately thrown into the too hard basket. In fast reviews the papers involved get tick box analysis ... deep understanding of their...
The issue in this thread is not whether CBT might work in individual cases, but whether or not any claim to it being gold standard is warranted. To me the answer is no.
There are layers of issues here. This includes issues around both scientific research and evidence based medicine.
First, a...
Yes. However with a well designed study and objective measures then many of these issues are minimised. None of that fixes the issue of asking the wrong question. You can have a great study that answers the wrong question, but it will not answer the right question. To ask the right question if...
Gold standard for me = methodologically sound, double blinded, randomized, placebo controlled trial, with objective outcomes.
I have not investigated CBT much, so this is a question not a conclusion - is it methodologically sound?
It is NOT double blinded.
It is NOT placebo controlled...
@Samuel many of us have issues swallowing, it seems to be a common feature of ME. This can include food sticking and not going down. I have to drink a lot to keep my throat wet, and sometimes to swallow dry food at all.
I suspect this might be a confirmatory test. If its not confirmed, you probably don't have ME. You might have a particular CFS subtype, that is a separate issue. Its not about diagnosing ME, its about removing non ME cases.
One of the huge difficulties we face is that we can reliably get good...
I will need to read this paper a few more times before I say anything, but this test might be used as a possible confirmatory test for CFS, and more likely for ME. Its a research test though, so I am not sure if its going to be useful clinically. However it is in agreement with the CPET data...
I used to have a constant store throat, and had it for many years. Then for over a decade it went away. In the last several years it came back, and brought its buddy the constant cough with it.
What I found most interesting was that it referred to strictly defined CFS as a disease, repeatedly. It also mentioned post exertional issues. CFS with PEM is ME as far as I can tell. This appearing on webMD might signal a change in medical culture.
