Catalytic Antibodies May Contribute to Demyelination in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2023, Jensen, Davis et al

Ron Davis still seems to be claiming that 50% of us have MS as well as ME. :banghead:

Preprint Oxidative Stress is a shared characteristic of ME/CFS and Long COVID, 2024, Shankar, Bonilla, Davis et al.

I get the impression the work on ME/CFS at Stanford is not particuarly well coordinated. I don't see research themes emerging. Are they trying to do to much at once? The abstract for this paper does not give me faith, and people here have rightly pointed out several errors already.

Is there a forum like this for autoimmune conditions?

There are some websites that have multiple forums for different conditions. patient.info is one. The tinnitus forum I visit is based at https://healthunlocked.com/ so you could check there too.

Time-dependent complexity characterisation of activity patterns in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 2024 Rabaey et al

This looks like complete overkill. You'd be better doing some basic stats—such as time series analysis—on activity data from apps like Visible or from activity trackers.

Deep phenotyping of post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2024, Walitt et al

They've really done an excellent job of leaving the door ajar to a psychogenic interpretation of their findings/conclusions, haven't they? Particularly in the NIH press release. I actually don't mind the idea that the brain is stuck in some sort of loop / state due to the immune system going...

    UK: Dr Sarah Myhill

Well, at least it doesn't mention ME/CFS. We need to distance ourselves from fringe figures like Myhill.

UK: Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) articles, blogs and discussion

I refused to complete these idiotic questionnaires on the grounds that (i) they can't distinguish between ME symptoms and symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, and (ii) I know they are useless and used carelessly as evidence of improvement. And yes, doing this at the start of every session was...

OMF: Muscle Biopsy and Plasma Study into Post-Exertional Malaise, David Systrom, 2022

Yep, possibly. I have read up on that. I do think I have some sort of fascial problem. I have some very small tender areas in particular muscles. But otherwise I don't have that much overall pain.

OMF: Muscle Biopsy and Plasma Study into Post-Exertional Malaise, David Systrom, 2022

Ineresting. This sounds like a different issue. My lumps are not visible—they're under or within the skin/tissue layer, and not near joints. Nor are they as large as the ones you describe. Maybe we're all just lumpy.

OMF: Muscle Biopsy and Plasma Study into Post-Exertional Malaise, David Systrom, 2022

I was at the doctors a few days ago about my recent decline. I had to attend for blood tests, and talked to my GP about this issue of 'muscle lumps'. They are most prevalent around my bicep muscle. She seemed to think it was possibly not the muscle, but rather subcutaneous fat. It's objectively...

Extreme tinnitus, can anything be done?

Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done—often nothing. I have severe tinnitus and have had tinnitus of some level constantly for 12 years. It's a nightmare, so I sympathize with your friend. ME and tinnitus is the combination from hell. Tinnitus is a brain issue, though damage to some...

What can I do to treat covid-19 infection?

It's certainly in your interest to find out if it is covid or something else. It's not too early to test. I would do 2 or 3 tests over the next few days / week if you have access to rapid tests. I'm not clued up enough about antibody tests to provide advice. I suspect it's very complex, like...
