"Contextual effects" is sometimes used in French instead of placebo effect. I don't know if it's the case in English? It seems more accurate as it aknowledges that a lot of processes are at play and gets rid of the kind of esoteric mind body thinking that often accompanies the term placebo.
And I think, as LP is such a mixture of esoteric craps, she couldn't say she thought it would be successfull before there was any results. But as it has been sanctified by "science", she can now claim it works without anyone clearly knowing why (while thinking CFS patient are just so irrational).

This is a big problem. That's why, before any solid study is published giving us an idea of what the rate of structural problems is in people presenting with ME symptoms, it is premature IMO to tell people to make an appointement with these surgeons.
