In our case the list of 'key workers' entitled to the new 'childcare service' is extensive. It includes people like delivery drivers, who are not skilled professionals. Harsh as it is, if these people can't either swap shifts with someone else or get childcare, it would be easy for their...
So despite the warnings from the teaching professions, it appears the government is going ahead with its plan regardless:

As if the profession isn't already struggling to recruit good quality...
So the central government plan is to put the kids of key staff into a situation where they are going to be at high risk of exposure and become super carriers and spreaders, so they can infect their parents who are key workers...(obviously some parents are at high risk of exposure and being super...

Just heard from my daughter, the secondary school teacher. She is so stressed by what the government is planning for schools - it is chaos...
My young Bengal cat started having seizures. He underwent extensive neurological testing (over £3500's worth) at a specialist veterinary centre with world class equipment. They were pleased to be able to tell me his scans and lumber puncture were all clear, with no signs of neurological damage...
I don't think locals have any problems with second home owners that use their properties on a regular basis, contribute to the local economy and treat the locals with respect. But there are some homes that are empty for over 10 months of the year and pockets of the country where 2nd homes form a...
At least Butlins have taken the decision to close their holiday centres before being forced to. However, there are still a lot of caravan parks in the area.

I'm not sure which thread to put this in, but here's the (I believe) latest guidance for GP practices in England:

Yes. Influx from urban city dwellers is my concern too for my area of West Somerset, where there is no hospital with an ICU (just a small community hospital in Minehead, with a very small Minor Injury Unit) and a third of the population over 65. I did the census in 2011 in West Somerset, loads...
The UK government has just published the papers that have been informing it's decisions:

It's a very bad situation that in the UK the concept of 'herd immunity' has been seeded in the minds of the public. Reading through comments on news sites, such as the BBC (a depressing reading at the best of times) it's very clear that many people still (as of today, days after the U-turn on...
Maybe something on the resilience PWME have developed through their experience of being isolated, home bound etc.? This would go a long way towards changing the public's image of us, especially as so many (worldwide) are now getting some personal experience of what it is like to have to adapt...
As I predicted from my visit to Sainsbury's on Wednesday morning, their 'dedicated shopping hour' today had the reverse effect for many stores (there may have been exceptions in some parts of the country). I'm so glad now that I ignored the email and kept to my original plan. At least I got...
When people start seeing that their delivery is missing half the items they ordered (and especially those items they may most need) they may go back to physically going into the store (if not in self-isolation) or using 'click and collect'. I hope so anyway.
It might improve with time, as supermarkets start restricting more and more items and prioritising deliveries for the elderly and vulnerable (who are supposedly being 'cocooned'). I'm sure a photo of evidence showing your ESA support group status would be accepted as proof you are in the...
I couldn't get access (via Sci-hub) to the original research article posted in this thread. But I did manage to find a journal article by the psychologists elaborating the methods these researchers used. in reaching their conclusions. Make of it what you will...
But if the methodology is poor, there are lots of assumptions being made that avoid complexity, and the researcher is imposing their own 'constructs' on their research data (difficult not to do when using qualitative methods, including surveys) the results will be meaningless.
Yes, 6 of us and one small bathroom and only the single toilet in an 'open plan' 70's new build house. For a lot of the 70's, 80's and 90's most 3 bedroom houses in the UK were built this way, older council houses used to have an additional downstairs toilet (as mine does). They've started...
I just bought this version (48 extra long rolls for £40), but I purchased it off Ebay (as you get buyer protection). It actually looks like proper toilet paper as well as being ethical and supporting people in need of sanitation:
