Anyone have trouble with blood draws?

I don't get blood tests that often but when I do I prefer they take it from my right arm. For some reason it is more painful on my left arm so always ask if they can take blood from my right arm. I haven't had any other problems other than that though.

    Golden hour (/month)

@JaimeS I have to take extra care in the winter months. Something I came to notice some years into my ME was that my ME would deteriorate when the temperature dropped to 13C/55F and below. I'd love to live somewhere where I never have experience anything under 13C again! So, I let things go in...

Protocol Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in Norwegian outpatients with mild to severe ME/CFS: protocol (...), 2024, Skjevling et al. Comeback Study

Hi @Sid  I'm about to take a break from the forum for a while. I'm so glad I caught your post. I often think about the MEs with gut problems and whether they experienced the same altered composition in microbiome which made them vulnerable to getting ME, like me. My changes were vaginally...

Protocol Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in Norwegian outpatients with mild to severe ME/CFS: protocol (...), 2024, Skjevling et al. Comeback Study

I experienced a permanent change in microbiome after an infection. Not the intestine though. I am pretty certain it was the pessary antibiotic that was used at that time. I was never the same again. This was back in the 80s. I tried to get answers from doctors at the time but realised they knew...

Should we be cooling our brains down?

Last summer I found placing a cold pack at my lower back really helpful. I was able to move around without feeling like I was going to collapse or faint from over heating. I've always had an unusual heat with my ME. I'm not comfortable with a cold pack on my neck but found my lower back was...

Whether to have a flu vaccination

I've caught a lot colds in the doctors waiting room. If your getting a flu shot you might want to wear a mask in the waiting room. Otherwise you could catch the flu while waiting for the flu vaccination.

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

@EzzieD I had the same bacteria Vagococcus at 7.4% as you in the throat swab results. Everything else was different to yours. Did anyone else have Vagococcus? I had it in my nose swab as well at 1.0%

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

Who do we go to to find out what these results might mean? I have an ENT appointment coming up next week. I'll take my nose and throat results to him/her to begin with. I finally got my throat swab result back too. Mine were quite different to yours. I'll try and get mine up or will PM you mine...

    Issues w/nausea in PEM

@JaimeS I get the throat problems too, too exhausted to talk, hoarse. I notice an usual taste in my mouth with severer PEMs. With very severe PEM I get very weak, insomnia, no appetite, I retch and vomit and get diarrhoea. This is what reminds me of chemotherapy, it feels like some kind of...

Whether to have a flu vaccination

I can't take the risk with the flu shot. Never had one. It was a flu-like cold that caused my mild ME onset and a very nasty flu which sent me into an acute severe ME onset. My mother had a bad reaction to the flu shot a few years ago. She was very ill with vertigo for six weeks. I was so...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

@Forbin Very much what I experience. My gait gets much worse and I have to concentrate on walking. It's hard work and with the feeling like you aren't going to make it. The unsteadiness is awful.

    Poll and discussion: Ear Problems

I can't recall ever having an ear infection. I do get a thick feeling in my ears from time to time but that could be due to chronic sinusitis. I have had two bouts of vertigo since having ME. The last one was due to a small knock to the head.

Latent class analysis of a heterogeneous international sample of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (Leonard Jason team)

I think brain fog is possibly apt for some members because their cognitive symptoms are not as severe as others. @Trish Thank goodness we have some MEs like you who don't get the brain symptoms as bad as other MEs. You write so well and we need good speakers and writers like you. :) I find the...

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

I lost a lot weight at my severe onset also. I also couldn't make up that weight that I lost until I got to menopause. (14 years from severe ME onset to menopause). Something I noticed during those years until now regarding my weight was every time I gained weight near the 60kg mark I would get...

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

Not sure about fasting. When I am at my sickest I get very weak with nausea and cannot eat. I start to improve a few days later with the help of a little lemonade which I only take sips of. It seems my own body puts me into a fast when this sick which might help for a little while, a day or...

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

Same here. I used to be able to tone up to a level that I like in 3 weeks before ME. Since ME I can't tone up properly. When I do try I get severe PEM. It's as if there is not enough or too much of something there in the muscle to tone up properly and because of that PEM is triggered in the...
