Trial By Error: Some Good News on Cochrane, David Tuller

Their failure to withdraw the review after Blakemore and others pressured them always looked weak. This new statement makes it even more inexplicable. One reason I thought they would let Larun get away with minor changes is that refusing to publish her work and releasing a statement like this...

30th Nov: Cochrane 'have not approved publication of the [Larun] re‐submission' - but old version not withdrawn either.

The GP (Margaret McCarney) was discussed earlier in this thread: https://www.s4me.info/threads/bmj-columnist-margaret-mccartney-sums-up-her-content.5669/#post-102659

I don't know what's going on there. Their CBT CFS review is from 2008, so that's much older.

30th Nov: Cochrane 'have not approved publication of the [Larun] re‐submission' - but old version not withdrawn either.

Also, I wonder if that means that they feel less able to withdraw Larun's review against her wishes? If they're seen as doing something that will damage the reputation of someone who volunteered to do a review for them (and had their review approved for publication) that could be seen as...

Cochrane's plans to update its COI policy

This thread has been split from here It's after 5:30 on the last day of November, and there doesn't seem to have been any update to the Cochrane review. Edit - they added a new statement...

Caroline Struthers' correspondence and blog on the Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome, 2017 and 2019, Larun et al.

Yeah, it sounds like Cochrane got pressured into agreeing to let the authors smooth a few rough corners and remove a few transparent falsehoods, and then republish things largely unchanged. Membership of the Cochrane Council here...

Livestream of David Tuller - The PACE Trial: A "Thing of Beauty" or Pile of Crap?

Over a thousand views already: Facebook really is the place where things get spread/viewed/etc. With media articles/blogs that say how many shares they get from different sources it is normally facebook that dominates. Thanks to all those working to spread good advocacy info there - seems to...

2018: Discussion on the NICE procedure: what to expect next?

Now we're a decade after NICE promoted CBT/GET, the professionals and 'experts' are going to be those who have worked within these guidelines. This entrenched power is going to make it extremely difficult to make any progress, especially as it seems that the systems around NICE ended up...

Carol Monaghan has applied for a debate in UK House of Commons main chamber

I think that, as a patient group, our history makes us unusually intolerant of any sort of positive spin. Given our situation this is a good (even necessary) thing, but I suspect that it's different to the attitude of a lot of campaigning groups.

Looks like that's a reference to general IAPT figures, just based on self-report and with weak criteria for recovery and 'reliable recovery': https://files.digital.nhs.uk/52/D3168F/psych-ther-2017-18-ann-rep.pdf

Erythrocyte Deformability As a Potential Biomarker for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Davis et al (2018)

I just had a look for a facebook profile, and saw that post had only been shared 9 times. I guess that a lot of her concerns will be assessed when there's an attempt to replicate this work with a larger sample. Lots of people have speculated about lots of different things over the years. What...
