Money is the issue - I don't have very much.
If I go to my own GP, as far as she is concerned she has arranged all the testing I required (ultrasound scan and MRI scans) and it all came back negative. I've even had a couple of colonoscopies, although they weren't directly given for this pain...
I live in the UK and I would like to get some tests of my gut health. I'm assuming I would have to supply a sample of faeces and send it through the post - I can't think of any other way I could test without involving the medical profession (which isn't an option).
The kind of thing I think I...
You're absolutely right! Sorry, I screwed that one up! I'll edit.
Oh and I'll edit this post too. I don't know the full info on this person's problems. It sounded complicated and wasn't one of the "standard" things.
I've been assured by a sufferer that she spent years being diagnosed with IBS before she was correctly diagnosed with IBD (Irritable Inflammatory Bowel Disease). She has an unusual diet in that she can't eat gluten-free food, and she has to have gluten in her grains. She also has some issue with...
In some cases "Examined Under Anaesthetic" is mentioned in surgery notes with the acronym EUA. I have it in surgery notes of mine from the 1970s. It was actually reasonable at the time because I was in so much pain that I couldn't tolerate being examined before the surgery. I have often...
The BBC intends to show more articles on the theme of "The Health Gap". These will be listed on this page as they are produced :

For NAC I would personally recommend Swanson :
https://www.healthmonthly.co.uk/swanson_nac_n_acetyl_cysteine
My reason for suggesting this one is that it has a thicker shell than some makes of NAC I've tried, but it doesn't seem to affect the uptake of the NAC itself. Since NAC smells vile...
I completely agree! Facebook and anonymity are words that don't belong in the same sentence. But some people feel better having shared terrible things that happen to them, and they may consider it to be worth it. The chances of the medical staff involved in their terrible experiences ever...
@Barry Do you have the link to that exchange between MS and Carol Monaghan? I'd like to see the rest of the thread but your picture is just an unclickable image as far as I can tell.
I think that people submit their stories to the people who run the group via private message, and then the stories are published with initials and date submitted. So there is no public direct link between the story and the Facebook account of the person who submitted it.
Well, sedating someone usually does alter brain function - people are sleepy, can't talk very fluently, probably have memory problems etc. I've just never heard of anyone being interviewed under sedation before and it strikes me as being very, very dodgy.
Edit : The comment came from the quote...
"following an interview under sedation"
WTF! Is that common? Does anyone actually believe what is said by patients under sedation? In what way is this ethical?
Edit : I should have said "Does anyone actually believe what is said by patients under sedation is reliable?"
Is it "normal" for young kids to spend time being so introspective? I suspect that the high rates of depression found amongst the young may be one result of this, particularly for girls.
I am so, so, so glad that I grew up long before the age of social media.
