USA: NIH National Institutes of Health news - latest ME/CFS webinar 14 Jan 2025

Wallitt is one of the more “alternative health friendly” people out there. I could see the opposite happening, him getting a promotion.

Long Covid drug BC-007 research news

This is a common thing. I see almost as much people saying papers chose the wrong outcome measures for what should have been a positive effect, than the opposite. And as most of us on this forum can attest to, understating findings seems far less common than overstating. People want to...

Don’t understand much of this but it looks interesting.

    Perrin Technique

On this weeks episode of, “Things people who recover are attributing their recovery too, even though blinded studies show no benefit”…. (note I have no clue if there are any studies of the Perrin technique specifically.)

USA: NIH National Institutes of Health news - latest ME/CFS webinar 14 Jan 2025

I think there’s a loophole for budget bills (which this would probably be part of) where a 51 vote majority is needed instead. There is near zero chances the democrats take back the senate before 2028. The 2026 map doesn’t allow the 4 flips needed without a crazy D+10ish environment. Though...

Incompetence and “Useless” Research into ME and Long COVID

This is more of a “my person experience” rant then a high quality discussion as I don’t have the energy for the latter right now, but here goes: Why do a chunk of published studies in ME/LC feel absolutely worthless? Why is it almost easy to find errors in published papers in this discipline...

Blood Volume Deficit in POTS Assessed by Semi-Automated Carbon Monoxide Rebreathing, 2024, Kulapatana et al

Haven’t read the paper but is it not slightly problematic to have a very different proportion of sexes in control vs test group?

Is there any chance It’ll be voted on before the change in government. While the Democrats have a senate majority?

    C-reactive protein, CRP

Somehow even though I’ve had dozens of bloodtests over the past couple years only a single one measured CRP. And it was the tiny level of >0.3 mg/dl. Note that I was very mild back when this test was done and even though I got PEM, only aerobic exercise or partying would trigger it. And...

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Given there seems to be a societal and medical bias towards ailments that affect “healthy” people. As opposed to lifelong disabling ones, perhaps having an institution focusing on “chronic disease” isn’t the worst idea. Though RFK is one of the last people I’d choose to create it and run it.

This scientist treated her own cancer with viruses she grew in the lab

And already are through loopholes and skirting the rules. The alternative medicine industry is ever growing, and “wellness” influencers (many of which have messaging ripe with ableism) tend to be extremely good at selling products.

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

A possible Long COVID ally who is an outspoken RFK supporter (meaning she would be likely to pass vetting process) to nominate for a cabinet position could be Dana Parish.

RFK Jr. Is Crowdsourcing Cabinet Picks for Trump Just days after former President Donald Trump won the presidential election, his onetime-opponent turned supporter, the anti-vaccine superstar Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has set up a website to solicit suggestions for key Cabinet roles. Anyone can...

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Exactly. I really hope some of our advocates who have enough energy are willing to bite the bullet and try to get us what the funding we deserve, even if we fundamentally disagree with the views of the person we are pleading to.

UK:The Guardian:Unemployed could be given weight-loss jabs to get back to work, says Wes Streeting

Obviously the mental health impacts of the COVID lockdown have led to people becoming overweight and unequivocally explain the sudden high percentage of disability. (sarcasm)

Impacts of the 2024 change in US government on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Well I don’t know exactly how to say this. But despite the fact he’s an anti-science conspiracy theorist who will make things worse in general, if ME advocates effectively reach him and lean into his message a little too woo him and his aides, we might be able to get a boost in funding out of...
