Neurologic Manifestations of LC Disproportionately Affect Young and Middle-Age Adults, 2024, Natasha A. Choudhury MD et al

Could just be different baselines for comparison, and different expectations. For example, an older person might have felt quite fatigued pre-Covid-19, whereas the young person was jogging 5 km every night. And the younger person might need to look after children and get to work and meet...

Opinion The impact of COVID-19 on the understanding, management and treatment of post-viral conditions, 2024, Tate et al

In the third column, the ME/CFS and Long Covid cohorts don't really look different to the healthy controls (the bottom four rows). Yeah, the samples are way too small to conclude anything (although that doesn't stop people concluding things). Looking forward to DecodeME.

Opinion The impact of COVID-19 on the understanding, management and treatment of post-viral conditions, 2024, Tate et al

Figures 2b and 2c B. the results reported by Dass et al [53] using a new combinatorial platform together with a Genome Wide association Scree with ME/CFS patient samples C. Frequencies of three of the most abundant SNPs in small cohorts of ME/CFS, LC and healthy controls (Griffiths and Tate...

Upadacitinib (rinvoq)--could it reduce fatigue in ME/CFS?

The woman who took Rinvoq stopped it because her white blood cells dropped to 'dangerously low levels'. Three weeks after stopping, her white blood cell numbers had returned to normal and she felt better. I understand that she felt awful on the Rinvoq and so felt better when she stopped taking...

Bias due to a lack of blinding: a discussion

Wow. So there was no statistically significant change in MFIS from baseline to 24 week for any of the treatments? Was the modafinil treatment continued on past the 12 weeks?

Bias due to a lack of blinding: a discussion

It's certainly an interesting example. MSEspe, were you wondering, as I am, whether this design (A, B, A+B) might actually be a way to test whether CBT and all sorts of other interventions that can't be blinded actually help? Because, if they do help, then, barring some particular situations...

Bias due to a lack of blinding: a discussion

I haven't read the paper, comments are based on the abstract. Goodness knows what jiggery pokery happened in the 'adjustments'. That's a lot of factors to be adjusting for, and most of them don't seem to have a clear rationale for influencing fatigue reductions. For example, why would you...

Altered Neural Processing of Interoception in Patients With Functional Neurological Disorder: A Task-Based fMRI Study 2024 Sojka et al

Just yesterday I said this about another study: And here they are, taking 'clutching at straws' to a whole new level.

Altered Neural Processing of Interoception in Patients With Functional Neurological Disorder: A Task-Based fMRI Study 2024 Sojka et al

The "interoception in "functional" diseases" literature is all over the place - people with functional diseases including ME/CFS and fibromyalgia are supposed to be too aware, not aware enough, or authors of studies reluctantly accept that the data don't support the idea. From the abstract...

Drawing the lines of fibromyalgia: a mixed-methods approach to mapping body image, body schema, and emotions in patient subtypes, 2024, Swidrak

You might think, what is wrong with that blue drawing I used as an example of a 'conflicted body'? It seems that the body did not look feminine enough, with its wide shoulders and narrow hips. And yet, here's an example of a 'Connected Body', which also has wide shoulders and narrow hips...

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

That's such a good point bobbler. Presumably Neil Riley has someone on hand to make sure that he and the rest of his family have a meal to eat in the evening, regardless of whether he has used up all his energy on his daily shower.

Drawing the lines of fibromyalgia: a mixed-methods approach to mapping body image, body schema, and emotions in patient subtypes, 2024, Swidrak

The pictures the women drew are in the Appendix, that bottom of the document. They are interesting to look at. Clearly, the women thought that they were supposed to be marking where they experience pain. The pictures that were grouped into the three subsets are diverse. Some of the women...
