New York Times: Articles about medical gaslighting

I'm sure that the basic content of this article comes as no surprise to most people here, but I think it's really good to have such an extensive and accurate article published in the New York Times. If these practices are going to end, publicity like this is going to play a major role. Women...

Advice on mask-wearing to protect against Covid-19

Here is a fascinating article from Wired explaining a lot about why the initial WHO guidance (as well as the CDC guidance) about managing COVID-19 was so dreadfully wrong. It was this error that was one of the central reasons that mask wearing was not emphasized as early as it should have been...

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

It gets worse. Bolding mine. This could easily have been written 30 years ago. I have not heard of this site before, but it appears to be driven by a conservative ideology, and such ideologies by their very nature are not very open to changes in views - thus the outdated description of "CFS".

Excessive exercise training causes mitochondrial functional impairment and decreases glucose tolerance in healthy volunteers, Flockhart et al, 2021

[Edit: This post was merged from its own thread. I have rearranged a couple of lines of this post so that they make sense in the context of this thread. The original post was based on the New York Times article entitled Too Much High-Intensity Exercise May Be Bad for Your Health.] Change...

A Molecular network approach reveals shared cellular and molecular signatures between CFS and other fatiguing illnesses, 2021, Comella et al

Although your post referred to a couple of specific sections of the paper, I thought it would be useful to mention that Cort Johnson has written an article about this paper that he published today entitled Study Suggests Similar Processes Are Driving Long COVID and ME/CFS. The article is in...

Unlocking the Mysteries of Long COVID (The Atlantic) 2021, O'Rouke,

An excellent article from The Atlantic: Unlocking the Mysteries of Long COVID It's a great summary of what's been learned to date, and includes a number of illustrative case histories. It also makes a strong case tying long COVID to dysautonomia, and notes the similarities and differences...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

The January 2021 issue of Scientific American has an excellent article entitled The Immune Havoc of COVID-19. It explains in detail the interactions between the virus and the immune system that make the virus so dangerous. I highly recommend it.

    Judy Mikovits

Merged thread A rather damning article from Science Magazine, which is a publication of the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science). The article does an excellent job of destroying any credibility that MIkovits may have left. It describes some really wild conspiracy...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

It is gratifying to see such an intelligent discussion of the COVID-19 pandemic on S4ME. If the people who are actually managing this pandemic displayed as much knowledge of the subject as the people here, I think we would be in much better shape than we are. Meanwhile, as the data...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

With all the data about the spread of COVID-19 coming out daily, it's often hard to see what's going on and what the underlying trends are. I have found the video How To Tell If We're Beating COVID-19 to be extremely helpful in displaying these trends in a way that is easy to see and...

Six-foot rule to protect against coronavirus is questionable, MIT professor says (The Boston Globe)

The six-foot rule was for everything, since you can't always tell ahead of time when someone is going to cough or sneeze. As the article points out in detail, six feet was assumed to cover those cases. And even for normal breathing, six feet may not be enough. As I quoted in my first post...

    Possible cancer risk from ranitidine

I just got an email from my doctor recommending that all his patients stop taking ranitidine. For those people who are currently taking ranitidine and wish to replace it with an equivalent, safe H2 blocker, famotidine (Pepcid) can be an excellent choice. Like ranitidine, its side effects are...

The Stanford Daily: Stanford Medicine professor (José Montoya) fired for violating University rules of conduct (june 2019)

Dr. Montoya has released a statement concerning the events of the last week. I of course can't judge its accuracy, but it definitely puts forward a different story than what has been reported in recent articles, and is hard to reconcile with his firing from a tenured position. Here is his...
