Sile Lane from Sense About Science is another dodgy one too. Looks like it could be dominated by those who merely present as being committed to research integrity.

This pretty much sums it up for me. Anyone can say that they are about research integrity, high standards, transparency etc. but words are cheap and when you look at what people actually do in terms of actions and in-actions, in some cases you see a contrasting picture. Good to see a committee looking at these issues but it's likely to be limited by its input. Can the public have any input?

Can the public have any input?

They say:

The Science and Technology Committee is currently monitoring the diversity of its witnesses. The Committee values diversity and seeks to ensure this where possible.

We encourage members of underrepresented groups to submit written evidence. We aim to have diverse panels of Select Committee witnesses and ask organisations to bear this in mind when we ask them to choose a representative. We are currently monitoring the diversity of our witnesses.

Inquiry status: open
The deadline for written submissions was Thursday 5 October 2017. If you would like to send a late submission please contact Committee staff.

There were minutes from the MRC published somewhere (I think as an appendix in a welfare report) where Sile Lane and MRC representatives signed up to saying that FoI and parliamentary questions were harassment. I assume she will give the same message to the select committee that if they ask questions that is harassing researchers.

The Science and Technology Committee hears from the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO), a charity which provides advice to the research sector on research integrity matters.
