As a starting point it sounds pretty good that they didn't observe adverse effects. I could imagine if 30 ME/CFS patients take Adderall for three months, there would be adverse effects?

Depends on how well they screen for it. There are almost no adverse events in the GET trials either, even though we know there were some based on reports by participants.

Agomelatine has been approved in Europe and Australia. However, its development has been discontinued in the United States because phase 3 trials showed negative results, and there was evidence that the drug induced liver toxicity. It has also been suggested that the assessment scales currently used to evaluate depression do not accurately represent the circadian effect of agomelatine in depression, leading to inconsistency in clinical results.

Conclusion
In standard medical practice, agomelatine treatment was associated with a low incidence of side effects. No unexpected events were reported. A decrease in the severity of the depressive episode and improved functioning were observed.

A large European observational study conducted from 2009 to 2014. It's unclear to me why it took so long to publish.

Agomelatine was developed and is marketed by the drug company Servier. The Conflicts of Interest section in that study is long, it was sponsored by Servier and lots of the authors are employees.
 
Given this drug works on melatonin receptors, I just want to mention concerns about melatonin that I have mentioned elsewhere. A Professor working in the field of the management of farm animals raised serious concern about the use of melatonin in young people, primarily due to melatonin's use to alter the development of sexual reproduction in animals.
