    Alternatively it's possible that feeding rats a high fat diet makes them more intelligent and observant, and that the depression was as a result of knowing their brains were going to be sliced, whatever they did?

    I'd be depressed too if I lived my entire life in an enclosed space and people in white coats continually prodded me and left me ever more ill.
