So they are suggesting that a life of being fine doing something can be overridden by a few weeks of feeling bad when doing something due to an acute infection?But note that this paper is not using the difference model - or at least at times seems explicitly not to be. It says that what it is proposing is in contradiction to the active inference, (difference) model. It seems to rely more on a quite different bayesian sort of relation - prior expectation of nastiness ensures a sense of nastiness attached to a sensory signal. That is an additive effect, not a differential.
