Yes, I was too foggy to say that in a coherent way.
But note that this paper is not using the difference model - or at least at times seems explicitly not to be. It says that what it is proposing is in contradiction to the active inference, (difference) model. It seems to rely more on a quite different bayesian sort of relation - prior expectation of nastiness ensures a sense of nastiness attached to a sensory signal. That is an additive effect, not a differential.
So they are suggesting that a life of being fine doing something can be overridden by a few weeks of feeling bad when doing something due to an acute infection?
 
Sorry if this is derailing the thread, but what makes you think specifically interferon gamma as opposed to other immune responses? Muscle cell damage would lead to a robust innate response but I’m not sure about an adaptive one
When I realized the consistency of feeling worse the day after serous exertion, I did some searching and found papers stating that IFN-g rose abruptly 24 hrs after exertion. That fit, so I stuck with it. Also, I'd suffered from type IV food sensitivity, which also involved IFN-g. There were some other supporting connections, such as my sensitivity to tryptophan, which connected to glial responses to IFN-g. So, no PhD level of knowledge forming that theory, just that it fit my observations. I hadn't encountered any counterevidence.

If you have those papers saved I’d be interested to read them. I know type I interferons follow that timeline and would be more in line with the innate local response. It makes sense that type II might have similar temporal dynamics but the open question for me is what is driving the response in the adaptive compartment
