Technological progress is baffling to most people because it never works the way they seem to think: being able to do the same thing we are doing, better, faster, cheaper.

Instead it works by completely changing what is possible to do, usually by making it possible to skip entire steps. If you end up doing the exact same thing, but faster, you're doing it wrong most of the time. Like using an electric nailing machine as a hammer.

Those projects are really all about bringing 19th century ideas in the 21st century. Impressive fail. They keep pumping money into this wastebasket, get nothing for it, and their only solution is to keep doing the same thing, except more expensive, by using expensive technology that changes nothing about what they do except that it's done with technology now. Cringe.

In my experience, the NHS jumps directly to "anxiety" before even considering the rest.

For example, my dysautonomia started in April 2024. I was too ill for two months to see a GP or think straight. When I did the first asked me why had such medical anxiety. I replied I don't when symptoms are real.

The next GP I saw said let me check your notes (something is definitely written there on anxiety), and then didn't listen to my symptoms and actually repeated "don't dismiss the power of the mind" until I got frustrated and left.

Long story short, eventually got a very non urgent nhs cardio appointment, so paid privately and that was worth every penny! My interactions with my nhs GP has improved too now that something "real" exists.
