ME: ‘I spend 20 hours a day lying down. I have four upright hours in the day’ Myalgic encephalomyelitis sufferers live with a range of conditions some have described as being ‘buried alive’ or as a ‘living death’ https://www.irishtimes.com/health/your-wellness/2022/10/11/me-i-spend-20-hours-a-day-lying-down-i-have-four-upright-hours-in-the-day/
A good article, but it's wrong to refer to preliminary findings from small studies as biomarkers, and I wish people wouldn't fall into the trap!
ETA: To be strictly accurate, what I said was I have had no relationships in the last 28 years when I’ve been severely affected.
Thank you Tom for being prepared to talk so openly about how ME has affected your life. It will help a lot of people understand ME better.
Thanks, @Tom Kindlon, for being willing to put yourself out there. I'm sorry the illness has had such an impact on your life. I think the world has missed out on you, as well as the other way around.
Good work everyone who has been reading and sharing it. It is now at number 3! I'll be going to bed soon. Perhaps people can keep an eye on it to see does go any higher: https://www.irishtimes.com/most-read/
Thanks to everyone who shared and/or read the Irish Times article, "ME: ‘I spend 20 hours a day lying down. I have four upright hours in the day’". https://www.irishtimes.com/health/y...ng-down-i-have-four-upright-hours-in-the-day/ When I went to bed it was at number 3 in the most read list and again when the morning email bulletin went out from the Irish Times it was at number 3. This would have meant that more random people would have read it. It is now at number 7 (see:https://www.irishtimes.com/most-read/ ) so some random people will still be coming across it because of that
I have only read the Irish Times since Brexit, given it seems to report much more accurately on British actions in relation to both Northern and Southern Irish matters than the English papers, overall it does seem to have good standards of journalism. Especially in the light of this article which is much more in depth that most newspaper coverage.
I was also photographed lying down outside. The photographer thought it looked quite striking with the sea in the background and he was sure the photo would be used. Perhaps because of the photo of the woman lying down that image wasn't used.
