    Most of the public stuff we see from medical and public health bodies is theater, political posturing. Whatever they say in public doesn't matter 1% as much as what goes on in administrative offices and how they make decisions, especially about expensive things like disability support. Money speaks much louder than vague concepts like quality of life and functioning in terms of activities of daily living.

    TL;DR: it's expensive and not going away. Actuaries, accountants and economists seem to be the only ones who will ultimately matter, with medicine having decided not to bother doing anything because it's too expensive. It's obviously far more expensive to do nothing. Counting these things is what actuaries, accountants and economists do best.
