ETA: At 20 people per session, it gets the word out very slowly. Yes, they already have publications etc., but some may prefer the webinar format, but not be able to participate for various reasons.

 

I know no more than what I have posted above but I would guess that Workwell, like many research groups in the ME field, struggle for funding. And without funding, obviously they can't work in the ME field, and if there is more plentiful and easier to obtain funding in other fields, they may well need to move into those other fields.

From memory they had a fundraising campaign over the festive period which didn't come close to it's target, so possibly this might be a way for them to continue their work while bringing much needed funds in. And, yes, $900 for 30-45min seems like a money spinner but what about all the time that they aren't being paid for but they keep working and educating?

So, to sum up, given the circumstances that they, like all researchers, have to work in, then I can understand why they might be doing this kind of thing.
