Sociodemographic and hospital characteristics for patients with severe functional disorder receiving specialized treatment... 2023 Korsgaard Brund+

Indicating that a condition is not known, and is therefore a functional disorder, while at the same time knowing enough about the condition to give it a specific name, in this case "chronic fatigue syndrome", indicates that the condition is known, and is differentiated from other illnesses as a...

There is also the issue that persons with poor health may be pressured by those with vested interests to choose MAID.

Medical assistance in dying when natural death is not reasonably foreseeable, 2023, Wiebe and Kelly

This change to MAID, as noted by @Mij in the above posting is concerning as regards pwME. ME is not a mental illness, however medical personnel uneducated about ME may assume this biomedical illness is a mental illness. This, in combination with the poor treatment many with ME receive from all...

Medical assistance in dying when natural death is not reasonably foreseeable, 2023, Wiebe and Kelly

I have read articles about 2 Canadian pwME who wanted to, or have applied to MAID partially because of poverty. This, along with ME is a huge burden to carry. In addition to the stigma, neglect and other mistreatment levied on pwME this situation can be extremely difficult to cope with...

Mechanisms underlying exercise intolerance in Long COVID: an accumulation of multi-system dysfunction, 2023, Jamieson et al

I don't know if a study using all these tests has ever been applied to pre-COVID PwME. Does anyone know? Some of these tests have of course been done for PwME; it would be good to see this more comprehensive investigation carried out with PwME, whose chronic illness did not follow a COVID...

    ME on NHS apps

Your comment naturally brings to mind tactics used by possessive, abusive, violent spouses, who isolate and block off any contact with friends and family. The abusers narrow the other person's world, making themselves the ultimate authority on everything; the only person the abused spouse can...

    ME on NHS apps

In the early 1990s, I received research information of the day, and all manner of other helpful info, from a ME support group. Absolutely none of this was forthcoming from any physician I consulted. Almost 40 years on, unfortunately, it's still the Dark Ages [ in GP consult rooms] where...

    ME on NHS apps

Yes, absolutely the case that many would argue against any kind of helping hand, as they believe it only encourages laziness, and other negatives.

    ME on NHS apps

If I recall correctly, the BPS Movement does advise that belonging to a ME support group will hinder recovery. They believe that support groups will reinforce the so-called false illness belief they say pwME have. ( BPS beliefs vs. the beliefs of pwME.)

Magicians Defy Creative Mental Health Trends

Over time, several medical system influencers have strived to make ME disappear. Magicians of a different stripe.

Good find @Mij :) But the study topic is unusual, to put it politely. :banghead:

Review Fatigue as the Chief Complaint: Epidemiology, Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment 2021 Maisel et al

Hypothyroidism is another disease that causes fatigue. According to "Hypothyroidism in Context: Where We’ve Been and Where We’re Going", "Hypothyroidism affects up to 5% of the general population, with a further estimated 5% being undiagnosed."...

Review Fatigue as the Chief Complaint: Epidemiology, Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment 2021 Maisel et al

From the article: "Anemia and other organic causes are rare as well." Dismissing the possibility that fatigue could be caused by anemia because it's assumed to be rare is concerning. Regarding the prevalence of anemia, the World Health Organization calls it a "major public health concern"...
